I had not read anything by this author for a while, but enjoyed her early novels. This book seemed too long by about half, and I found the main two female characters difficult to like. The women seemed to always be coming apart, out of control. I would read more by Karin Slaughter, hoping for more like her early, tighter stories.

If Indiana Jones lived in the X-Files era, he might bear at least a passing resemblance to Nolan Moore - a rogue archaeologist hosting a documentary series derisively dismissed by the "real" experts, but beloved by conspiracy theorists. Nolan sets out to retrace the steps of an explorer from 1909 who claimed to have discovered a mysterious cavern high up in the ancient rock of the Grand Canyon. And, for once, he may have actually found what he seeks. Then the trip takes a nasty turn, and the cave begins turning against them in mysterious ways.

The first half of this story kept me involved, but some things late in the novel were just too far-fetched......not that I can't suspend belief, but ..... Well, I don't want to spoil the story for you. The writer is a good story teller, new to me. I would read another book by same. However, I do feel that the train left the tracks near the end. Great job by the narrator who kept me hanging in there!

Four US Navy SEALS departed one clear night in early July 2005 for the mountainous Afghanistan-Pakistan border for a reconnaissance mission. Their task was to document the activity of an al Qaeda leader rumored to have a small army in a Taliban stronghold. Five days later, only one of those Navy SEALS made it out alive. This is the story of the only survivor of Operation Redwing, SEAL team leader Marcus Luttrell, and the extraordinary firefight that led to the largest loss of life in American Navy SEAL history.

I highly recommend this on audible. This story is such an exciting and action packed listen that it could have been written as a fictional thriller novel. The fact that the story really happened makes it even more powerful and moving. The loss of Marcus' fellow soldiers is so emotional. You can feel that he will never forget the bond they shared. The fact of his survival (only possible by the kindness of strangers) is almost a miracle. The tradition of the importance of inviting a stranger into the village shows a strong compassion for human life. Thank you to the villagers who took Marcus in and protected him. Thanks to Marcus Luttrell and the other Seals in this story for their service and their sacrifice. God bless you all and God bless America!

Nearly a half century after Neil Armstrong walked on the moon, these Space Barons - most notably Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos, along with Richard Branson and Paul Allen - are using Silicon Valley-style innovation to dramatically lower the cost of space travel and send humans even further than NASA has gone.

If, like me, you have been disappointed with our country's space exploration in recent years (lack of), this is an interesting book about the private companies who are eagerly taking on the challenge. I drive a Tesla Model 3, and Elon Musk is, in my opinion, a person who is trying to make the future more positive and exciting. I still don't know why Musk has been treated so harshly. I learned more about SpaceX. I did not know as much about Bezos and others also joining in, so that was educational, too. I enjoyed the narrator and recommend this to all who are interested in man's future in space. #tagsgiving #sweepstakes

This is a fast moving, fun story of a crazy, mad space adventure. The book could be a 5, but author needs to tone down the sarcasm! Honestly, it seems there is a snarky comment every three minutes for 10+ hours. The narrator never seems serious, even in serious situations. I don't think he was a good choice. Lastly, this book ends in the middle of an important "event" in the story, leaving readers without an ending. I may read the second one, but would appreciate a stand alone book with some kind of an end after listening for over ten hours! I felt a little cheated.

Since the day Donald Trump announced his presidential campaign, the left has waged a demented war against him. Liberals used to pride themselves on their ultra-hipness, but Trump has turned them into weeping little girls in pink party dresses. The very people who once mocked right-wingers for (allegedly) overreacting to every little thing are now the ones hyperventilating and hatching insane conspiracy theories.

Ann Coulter can make me laugh while explaining so many things. Her book is a look at the media's "version" of the facts on many of the Trump issues (stories). She quotes (and names) media folks and then tells the real outcome of the situation. If you want to laugh some and learn some, listen to her book. I like the fact that she "reads" her own books! Thanks again, Ann.

After the death of her adoptive mother, Ava Saunders comes upon a peculiar photograph, sealed and hidden away in a crawl space. The photo shows a shuttered, ramshackle house on top of a steep hill. On the back, a puzzling inscription: Destiny calls us. Ava is certain that it's a clue to her elusive past. Twenty-three years ago, she'd been found wrapped in a yellow blanket in the narthex of the Holy Saviour Catholic Church - and rescued - or so she'd been told. Her mother claimed there was no more to the story.

This mystery has a very complicated and difficult story line. Sometimes it is difficult to know who is speaking, but the narrator did a good job with this book. I personally found the characters impossible to care about. The ending is not what I wanted or expected. I got this as an audible daily deal, glad I did not spend a credit for it.
