Super well written mysteries /spy novels with great peppering of friendship/romance even for adults. The settings are lovely, the characters well developed, interesting and just different enough to be fun. I enjoy that I don't always figure out what is going on mid-way through the story. And the best part...I am learning spy techniques while I read. Or am I?

Little else in life is as dangerous as fire jumping. Flying past towering pillars of smoke, parachuting down to the edge of an all-consuming blaze, shoveling and sawing for hours upon hours, days at a time, all to hold the line and push back against the raw power of Mother Nature. But there’s also little else as thrilling - at least to Rowan Tripp. The Missoula smoke jumpers are one of the most exclusive firefighting squads in the nation, and the job is in Rowan’s blood: her father is a legend in the field. She’s been fighting fires since her eighteenth birthday.

Could not put it down mostly because of the content. Totally new concept and crazy interesting and difficult work. However, I noted maybe more or just because it was so packed with information, how unnecessary all the nasty language flooded the work. I am no prude, however, this book in particular, was heavy handed with unpleasant words for which there are substitutes. Not everyone working in stressfull situations takes the Lord's name in vain and drops an "F" bomb every few minutes.

Nice love story, exciting who-done-it, good pace. The characters are all lovably flawed. Imperfect characters makes Nora books more lovable somehow. The main character's Mom with agoraphobia and the super stand alone main character who had grown up much as a child are endearing. The love interest is the guy we all want secretly. Family is whatever you want it to be in this book as it sometimes is in real life. Great read.

The tambor and timing of the reader are off. I have never listened to a narrator who had a total disregard for punctuation. it was a painful listen for that reason. Characters were not her forte either. Everyone speaks in the same voice, quick speed and excited expectation, whether something is going on or not. Nora Roberts delivers again! The story is excellent. It is ashamed it is overshadowed by the production in this case.

This book pulled hard at the heartstrings. The characters were super lovable and use of nicknames and southern vernacular added lots of charm. Setting the book in a small town and with a close knit family helps to make the characters more believable and ultimately people one might like to go spend some free time getting to know on a porch swing or at the local hang out. January LaVoy is an excellent reader and did superbly with her children's voices in this book, elderly folk, down south, up north, female and particularly male parts. The book was a delight.

This was the most difficult Nora book yet to get through. Generally steamy love scenes were shortened for lengthy beatings. It is likely a bit too close to home for at least some listeners. There were many verbal flashbacks for me having been through a nasty divorce. I cannot imagine being able to read or listen to this if a person has been through a traumatic relationship with physical abuse. I wonder if there ought to be a message on how to reach a national abuse hotline before or after the book in a PSA, or maybe a disclaimer at the beginning. I am well read in multiple categories and uncertain I have ever been affected so much as this book. I encourage anyone who is in a situation of being physically, verbally and mentally abused to seek assistance.

Elizabeth is probably the most interesting and complex character Nora has ever written. She did a marvelous job with keeping all the interactions between the characters (and pets) very real. The story line was super thought-out and hard to guess ahead. The passion steamy, but believable. Just a really great read (listen).
