Blackwater is the saga of a small town, Perdido, Alabama, and Elinor Dammert, the stranger who arrives there under mysterious circumstances on Easter Sunday, 1919. On the surface, Elinor is gracious, charming, anxious to belong in Perdido, and eager to marry Oscar Caskey, the eldest son of Perdido's first family. But her beautiful exterior hides a shocking secret. Beneath the waters of the Perdido River, she turns into something terrifying, a creature whispered about in stories that have chilled the residents of Perdido for generations.

this is one part ghost story, one part monster story, one part historical fiction, 3 parts family saga. the characters are relatable and indepth the ambiance is great. My only complaint is the ending. Not that the ending is bad mind you. it just feels like a bit more explanation would have help.

Dark fantasy goes hardboiled in Book II of the hard-hitting Grimnoir Chronicles by the New York Times best-selling creator of Monster Hunter International. The Grimnoir Society’s mission is to protect people with magic, and they’ve done so - successfully and in secret - since the mysterious arrival of the Power in the 1850s, but when a magical assassin makes an attempt on the life of President Franklin Roosevelt, the crime is pinned on the Grimnoir.

originally drawn to this author by the monster hunter series I am in love with this series. While admittedly a lot darker and a lot more serious the world and story is amazing.. I am also very pleased with the narration. the only criticism i have is the character of Sullivan he's a little to predictable. Not an aweful character just nowhere near my favorite character... however Fae more than makes up for this...shes awesome and really fun.

Jake Sullivan is a licensed private eye with a seriously hardboiled attitude. He also possesses raw magical talent and the ability to make objects in his vicinity light as a feather or as heavy as depleted uranium, all with a magical thought. It's no wonder the G-men turn to Jake when they need someoneto go after a suspected killer who has been knocking off banks in a magic-enhanced crime spree.

Really good story with well thoughtout dogma and historical fiction. Although a bit redundant and wordy at times its a fun read overall. the plot is cleaver the Dialog not as fun as the Monster Hunter series isnt bad.. a little bit darker over all. the narator is solid not the best but solid. His accents for the diffrent characters are well done. It is a definite win.

It feels rushed for the first few chapters of the first book but it finds its rythem eventually. The Snark is good and the love story isnt over bearing. The snark is good and its pretty funny at parts. The main character isnt a super badass or completely testosterone driven, which is refreshing. The suport characters are likeable if not a little predictable. Over all its not going to win any literary awards but its a fun read.

Overall not a new plot but then the book has no problem pointing this fact out and even at times poking fun at it. Like it's predecessor there are dozens of nerd culture references for even the most casual fan boy to enjoy. Oh and a decent little twist at the end that keeps the story fresh and not just another cliche. Mr Wheaton gives another wonderful performance. I originally thought I'd be saying "Damn it Wesley!" but in truth he dose a pretty good job.

Why we think it’s a great listen: Gaiman’s not just an award-winning author, but a narrator who earns rave reviews – and fields requests from other authors to perform their books, too! Nobody Owens, known to his friends as Bod, is a normal boy. He would be completely normal if he didn't live in a sprawling graveyard, being raised and educated by ghosts, with a solitary guardian who belongs to neither the world of the living nor of the dead....

Simply put this book was awesome. Yhe book is the right combination of quarky, creepy, magical, menacing, and heart warming to make a beautiful coming of age in the most unusual way story. The characters are not only relatable but likable as well. My one and only issue is, while this suposse to be a child's book or at least that is how it is advertised. It seems a bit to violent for younger readers. I would suggest 14 and up.
