They tried to destroy our planets. Our way of life. They tried to send us into extinction. But we, the Coalition, fought them and won. That was a decade ago. They’re known as the Host: a cabal of aliens seeking to dominate our sector of space. And they’re back - with help from a powerful new enemy. We’re outnumbered and unprepared. But there is hope. An ancient race of long-dead but technologically advanced aliens called the Navigators have a ship called the Blackstar that could potentially turn the tide. That is if I, Kai Locke, a humble ship racer, can find it and learn how to harness its power in time.

Don't waste your time on this book. The storyline and characters within the story are extremely shallow. Your money and time will be better spent on other books.
The narrator did as good of a job as he could given the content of the book. Would love to hear him read better books.

Dan Delgado is a private investigator. He’s unenthusiastic, and unmatched. As a former San Francisco detective, he misses more meaningful work, but he hasn’t had the heart for it since his wife’s death five years prior. That is, until a phone call from a distraught mother, an illegal immigrant who can’t go to the police, puts him on the hunt for a missing little girl. By the time he reaches the mother’s small home, she’s missing, too. Then a team of heavily armed mercenaries arrive. Delgado and crew are plunged into a dangerous world of corporate competition, UFO lore, and government cover-ups.

Pros:
- Really different and fun way to look at extraterrestrials.
- Jeremy Robinson does an excellent job creating some really fun characters in the book.
- R. C. Bray is a great narrator.
Con:
- Storyline has a few flaws/holes in it. (I promise not to give any spoilers for those who want to read/listen). If you read/listen to the book knowing there are some storyline flaws, you will be better off (especially given the great characters Robinson creates in the book).

Set in present-day Los Angeles, Junk explores an epic conspiracy, one at work for thousands of years that involves total takeover of the planet Earth by aliens. In the wild, souped-up vision of Les Bohem - the acclaimed, Emmy-winning writer of the Steven Spielberg miniseries, Taken - the world is at the end stage of long-range plot that involves a gigantic genetic-engineering project. The aliens who have invaded us have no planet. No spaceship is coming. Instead, a small advance force comes, breeds, and dies - thus becoming an anomaly in our DNA that can’t be explained.

The story is just so bizarre. I kept listing long past the point where I originally wanted to stop hoping that it would get better. Unfortunately, it never did. I gave up 2.5 hours into the 10 hour 30 minute book.
The narrator is a good "reader" (lots of great tone inflections), but not a good "performer". I mean this as he is unable to switch character voices well, or makes not attempt at all to change his voice from one character to the next. John will be fantastic reading a book written in third person where the person telling the story never changes. Unfortunately, Junk has many different people speaking and John does not seem to make any attempt to change his narrator's voice when talk in the book switches from one character to another. It was very difficult at times to determine which character was speaking the words he was reading.

Anything can be measured. This bold assertion is the key to solving many problems in business and life in general. The myth that certain things can't be measured is a significant drain on our nation's economy, public welfare, the environment, and even national security. In fact, the chances are good that some part of your life or your professional responsibilities is greatly harmed by a lack of measurement---by you, your firm, or even your government.

In the 20th century Earth sent probes, transmissions, and welcoming messages to the stars. Unfortunately, someone noticed. The Galactics arrived with their battle fleet in 2052. Rather than being exterminated under a barrage of hell-burners, Earth joined their vast Empire. Swearing allegiance to our distant alien overlords wasn't the only requirement for survival. We also had to have something of value to trade, something that neighboring planets would pay their hard-earned credits to buy. As most of the local worlds were too civilized to have a proper army, the only valuable service Earth could provide came in the form of soldiers....

Good story. I little disconnect how a new person retains their memory after dying and being respawned, but the overall book is still good.

This clear, accessible, and even humorous book is ideal for young listeners new to economics and to all listeners who seek a better understanding of the full sweep of economic history and ideas.
