An English Christmas audiobook cover art

I never got past Chapter 1 because it was exhausting to listen. I expected uplifting stories that would help keep Christmas cheers alive in my heart. Instead after the preface, I heard mostly passive aggressive journal entries or letters of complaint. It makes me hopeful that humanity has come farther than I thought when I heard these “stories”.

It’s been a long time since I read a Dan Brown book. I remembered the other 2, Angels and Demons and DiVinci Code fondly and so looked forward to this one. But I nearly gave up on the audio which takes a lot for me to do. Thankfully, the plot and theories kept me interested. I had an ah-ha moment of what was happening way before the reveal so had to listen to find out if I was right. I faded in and out of the listening but alas, found in the last 5 minutes of listening my purpose for hanging on to the end.

The last 5 minutes rang with such universal truth to me that I feel it was the whole purpose for Mr Brown’s telling of the story.

What would have made The Accelerated Learning Spanish System better?

A warning that this is not for beginners. They literally don't tell you what is being said. I may as well be watching a Spanish movie without subtitles.

What disappointed you about Classic Gold?

This just wasn't my thing. Too much profanity. I should have known better but I wanted something funny and other reviewers seemed happy.

What do you think your next listen will be?

Circling the Sun or The Nightingale

What did you like best about Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim? What did you like least?

Interesting stories shared about home life.

What aspect of David Sedaris’s performance would you have changed?

Change the narrator. His voice annoyed me after a while. He sounded like he was whining, which was not enjoyable to hear.
