I really like the babylon books. This is my least favorite, but the sound effects pushed me over the edge. between "bang bang bang" over and over and "squeeeel" ear ringing. Ive had to fast forward countless times in this book. annoying repetition is never good. lets hope it doesnt continue with the next book. ill get my credit back before i do that again.

I still haven't finished the book. I've been listening to it for over a week sporadically. Since I started listening to the book I've listened to 4 others (if that tells you how interesting I've found it). I love horror, Post Apco, Sci-fi, some fantasy. When I saw the premise of the book I was definitely intrigued. However, this book feels like a B horror movie, but not in a campy fun way. Not sure how else to describe it. I probably wouldn't read or listen to another of the authors books unless I saw it near the top of a best seller list and it was thoroughly vetted.

If the headline grabs you and says "Yes this is for me", then go ahead spend a credit. As a 38 year old male I found this book dissapointing and found myself unable to connect with any characters. The only emotion that kept coming up was one of wanting to watch scooby doo and wishing this book was better or totally different. Its hard to describe, but it was like watching your favorite show remade in a universe 6 dimensions to the left, where everything looks the same but everything functions differently and the similaritys only remind you how much you wish you were somewhere else. I couldnt take it anymore and stopped 2 hours from the end (unheard of for me as I burn through a 12 hour book every 2 days). I wont be listening to another of the authors books.

Would you try another book from Ira Tabankin and/or Anthony Bowling?

I may try another book, itll be a while though, i can only take some much extreme right wing ranting.

Would you recommend The Shelter, Book 1 to your friends? Why or why not?

No I would not recommenf this to a friend as I wouldnt want them to look at me like a crazy person.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

The narration was fine.

Do you think The Shelter, Book 1 needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

The shelter is written so that you know itll end when time does.

Any additional comments?

I love prepper , horror, scifi, end of the world books. This firmly falls into the prepper genre. The story started very interesting, soon it got pie in the sky unbeliveable, but still enjoyable. I knew it was going to be "one of those books" when 8 minutes in it began bashing liberals and obama. Still I read on because I dont really care about politics one way or the other. By the 4 hour mark though he turned the liberal govenrment into some antichrist american hating association which hours later has truly worn on my psyche. If this was just a prepper book Id go for the sequel, but it really started going full on hate fest after a while. Made me feel kinda dirty. If your a liberal youll hate it, if your a conservative youll probably love it. If you dont care one way or the other, its probably best to avoid the book.

I listen to end of the world books 90% of the time. They are usually good as background noise but they are generally the same stories rehashed and then stamped on with religous or political undertones.

This book was not like that. It was well written, had a unique storyline and didnt shove the authors religion or political affiliation down the readers throat.

The book is like 14 hours long. 24 hours after I downloaded it, it was done. I took a break to sleep and eat. Otherwise I listened to it straight. I really cant express how surprised and happy I am to have found this book.

It doesnt exactly seem like it was set up as a sequel or saga, but I really hope to hear more of this story. Regardless, going forward Ill be devouring anything this author puts out.
