Maeve Merritt chafes at the rigid rules at her London boarding school for “Upright Young Ladies.” When punishment forces her to sort through the trash, she finds a sardine tin that houses a foul-tempered djinni with no intention of submitting to a schoolgirl as his master. Soon an orphan boy from the charitable home next door, a mysterious tall man in ginger whiskers, a disgruntled school worker, and a take-no-prisoners business tycoon are in hot pursuit of Maeve and her magical discovery.

Recommended for those who are looking for the most predictable of stories. Take one genie. Give said genie to a girl that is the MOST misunderstood almost orphan (Think of The Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett).

Of course wishes are wasted. Of course the hero is the only one to really understand that orphans have feelings. Of course the wealthy boarders are bullies. Of course ......

The performance is hampered by the material.

Captain John "Black Jack" Geary's legendary exploits are known to every schoolchild. Revered for his heroic "last stand" in the early days of the war, he was presumed dead. But a century later, Geary miraculously returns from survival hibernation and reluctantly takes command of the Alliance fleet as it faces annihilation by the Syndics.

Appalled by the hero-worship around him, Geary is nevertheless a man who will do his duty. And he knows that bringing the stolen Syndic hypernet key safely home is the Alliance's one chance to win the war. But to do that, Geary will have to live up to the impossibly heroic "Black Jack" legend.

Adventuresome with a tiny pinch of space and naval technicalities. This is so good that I am going to use an audible credit to immediately buy the next one.

Other reviews seemed to describe something that I took as too much testosterone but my concern was unfounded.

Only 4 stars on the performance since you can’t tell when the main character is speaking or when it is his internal dialogue. Since he is concerned about the image he must (or must not) portray, it is important to know what he actually says.

Almost all of this material seems to be written for men-as-bread-winners and women-as homemakers. The authors make a passing reference to the significant percentage of women that make more than men, but then the authors revert to “His worry about providing for their household. “ There is nothing, nothing about a woman’s worry about her salary and providing for her family.

Some of the material is useful, but when someone is already trying to accept where they have to work on themselves, having this constant litany about men’s salary and head-of-household insecurities creates a barrier to that potentially useful material.

The Godfather is an extraordinary novel which has become a modern-day classic. Puzo pulls us inside the violent society of the Mafia and its gang wars. The leader, Vito Corleone, is the Godfather. He is a benevolent despot who stops at nothing to gain and hold power.

For the past few hundred years, most of what we’ve been taught about the native cultures of North America came from reports authored by the conquerors and colonizers who destroyed them. Now - with the technological advances of modern archaeology and a new perspective on world history - we are finally able to piece together their compelling true stories. In Ancient Civilizations of North America, Professor Edwin Barnhart, Director of the Maya Exploration Center, will open your eyes to a fascinating world you never knew existed - even though you’ve been living right next to it, or even on top of it.
