The year is 1739. Eliza Lucas is 16-years-old when her father leaves her in charge of their family's three plantations in rural South Carolina and then proceeds to bleed the estates dry in pursuit of his military ambitions. Tensions with the British and with the Spanish in Florida, just a short way down the coast, are rising, and slaves are becoming restless. Her mother wants nothing more than for their South Carolina endeavor to fail so they can go back to England.

This book and its narration filled me with awe and wonder about a very remarkable young girl/woman and those she loved! Before listening to this wonderful book, I had no knowledge about Eliza nor all the steps required to make indigo. Just thinking about it all revives my sense of awe. Needless to say, I highly recommend this Audible book!!! Both the book and its narration deserve 5 stars in every category!!!

Hill walked alongside Presidents Dwight D. Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy, Lyndon B. Johnson, Richard M. Nixon, and Gerald R. Ford, seeing them through a long, tumultuous era - the Cold War; the Cuban Missile Crisis; the assassinations of John F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King, Jr., and Robert F. Kennedy; the Vietnam War; Watergate; and the resignations of Spiro Agnew and Richard M. Nixon.

The only problem I had with this book wasn't present during Mrs Kennedy and Me. That problem is the use of the Lord's Name in vain and cursing. If it had only been used as a quotation of someone else's speech, I might have justified it in my mind... However, since the worst ones used were in describing how the author felt, that justification can't be applied. While I would have liked to have recommended this book to youthful listeners/readers, I can't due to the language used. Such a shame really as there are no better books, in my opinion, describing those historical days. If you are an adult and if you can listen to such words without wincing (I winced every time.), then by all means... I can in that case recommend this book.

It doesn't happen often, but this wonderful book and awesome narration kept me spellbound from beginning to end! I honestly feel like I know the characters and felt their joys (like finding things they never expected to find) and sorrows (like deaths of dear friends). I also was taught about things needed for survival... I have to admit I never thought of some of them. I highly recommend this Audible book and give it 5 stars all the way!!! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

It’s rumoured that Dickens wanted to return to his classic novel Oliver Twist, to bring him back into a later book as an older character, but he never managed this before he died. However, if Oliver had returned, what would he have been like? Would the scars of his childhood affect the man he would become? And what of ‘Dodger’, sent to a land halfway around the world, his friend, mentor and master dead because of Oliver? Dodge & Twist is that story. The tale of two boys, 12 years later, returning into each other’s lives - for both good and bad.

When she rides her bicycle over the rickety old covered bridge in the woods near her house, she always emerges in the places she needs to be. Vic doesn't tell anyone about her unusual ability, because she knows no one will believe her. She has trouble understanding it herself.

Before men ruled the earth, there were wolves. Once abundant in North America, these majestic creatures were hunted to near extinction in the lower 48 states by the 1920s. But in recent decades, conservationists have brought wolves back to the Rockies, igniting a battle over the very soul of the West. With novelistic detail, Nate Blakeslee tells the gripping story of one of these wolves, O-Six, a charismatic alpha female named for the year of her birth.

The author and narrator took me on a journey of observing the Yellowstone wolves, specifically the Lamar (sp?) wolves. As I listened, I really felt that I was right there with them. So much so that I fell in love with the members of the featured pack and actually still grieve their passing (most often from violent means... either from other wolves or hunters). What really breaks my heart, is that trophy hunting and inhumane trapping are still in vogue. If you needed it for food, I might understand it better... but not for financial gain or fame. I also really wish that there was something to deter the animals from leaving the sanctuary of the park. But like I said... this audiobook is a keeper!!! ♥🐺

Why is it that not once during all the rave reviews for this one, did anyone think to warn people of the extreme vulgar language? If I had known that every other word was the F-bomb, there's no way that I would have wasted my $5 coupon on it. Just five minutes in, I was totally disgusted. Why do people think that listening to someone speak that way is funny? I'm so glad that I didn't have any young ones in proximity. Depressing to say the least.

I can't remember when a book affected me as much as this book did. I don't know if that kind of love still exists in this world anymore. With all the hatred being espoused today by those who obviously do not and most probably never will understand what Ira (and the author) was trying to express, if that kind of love still does exist... it is very rare and exceedingly precious¡!!

Most books that I read go into and out of my brain rather surreptitiously... leaving me to wonder years and sometimes even just months later... did I "read" that and if I did, what was it about? This book will not join them in that dust-filled section of my mind.

This wonderful book, the characters that the talented writer and narrators brought to life for me, and the message that I very much do understand will always be right up front and center for me to take out of my memories time and time again to enjoy. And enjoy them I will most definitely until it's my time to join my own Ira (who was known as Gary).

If you do decide to read (or rather listen to as I did) this book, don't be surprised if it affects you in the same way as it did me. If it does, then I know that you understand too.
