Trisk and her hated rival, Kal, have the same goal: save their species from extinction. But death comes in the guise of hope when a genetically modified tomato created to feed the world combines with the government's new tactical virus, giving it an unexpected host and a mode of transport. Plague rises, giving the paranormal species the choice to stay hidden and allow humanity to die or to show themselves in a bid to save them.

This is a well-written book and excellently narrated by Marguerite Gavin. My qualm, the female, the lead, the character driving the story. SPOILER ALERT,:. I know books like life, do not have predictable endings however, I would have liked for the protagonist's character continue where she began, strong, brilliant, intelligent with a determination to succeed given the opportunity. SPOILER ALERT again: But through all the betrayal, lies and caca thrown at her, she resigns herself to an unhappy, dutiful fate? Did I read this correctly or are we going to see the unfolding of her real strength in book two? Yes, this reader will buy the next installment just to find out. If not, I'm done.

I love fantasy and am definitely purchasing Book Two.

There is only one little mistake made by either the narrator or the author. One of the characters is in a wheelchair and the narrator made a comment that the person walked. It took me out of the story but only for a moment. Each character is believable, fun and the supernatural elements weave so well into the plot. Is this considered, young adult? I don't know but, I absolutely loved this novel.

This is the second book which I hoped would be better than the first in this new series. I found too many characters filled the book, people and alients that I really didn't care about. The protagonist isn't very interesting and her there are times when her emotion goes from hot to cold without much reason or real motivation. I think this husband and wife team are great writers but for me, they are not connecting as far as this series..

Tonight Emma and her dog were not alone in the cemetery. There were two others there - Eric, who had just started at her school, and an ancient woman who looked as though she were made of rags.

I could barely get through this book. My personal preference in a narrator is one who is an actor. I love to hear character voices along with dramatic pauses and fluctuations in dialogue. Perhaps I'll read the book but for me listening to the narrator dampened my enjoyment of the writing. Narrator sounded as if she were reading the book.

I am looking forward to the last one in this series. Yes, it's filed under "children or young adult". That doesn't matter because the book keeps moving and building. Start from book 1 if you decide to get it. Nick Podehl is the perfect narrator for these characters. One character sounds like Jack Nicholson. If you listen to this book, you'll know which one. Young adult suspense at its best!

The isolated town of Beldon, Wisconsin, is shocked when a high school freshman’s body is found in Lake Algonquin. Just like everyone in the community, 16-year-old Daniel Byers believes that Emily Jackson’s death was accidental. But at her funeral, when he has a terrifying vision of her, his world begins to rip apart at the seams. Convinced that Emily’s appearance was more than just a mere hallucination, Daniel begins to look carefully into her death, even as he increasingly loses the ability to distinguish fantasy from reality.
