The only thing that saved this for me was Joanna Froggart. She is spectacular!! The story was long, and for some reason difficult for me to follow (who is who). I should have taken notes, but didn't care that much. Bottomline, I think that was the problem with it... I wasn't invested in any of the characters that much.

Predictable and uninteresting

This book was just okay. I didn't really care about any of the characters that much and the plot line got more and more predictable as it went on. It wasn't difficult to get through, but it also wasn't a book that, I was anxious to get another moment to pick it up

Tara Westover is a hero. Thank goodness she had the guts to expose what it is like to be raised in a home where mental illness is the norm and one is consistently told that their reality is not correct. That is crazy-making.

I applaud her determination and drive to see beyond her surroundings. Tara, I pray this book has given you the peace you so rightfully deserve, to have a happy and full life. It sounds as if you have - I pray that continues.

Angry, Honest and Painful

The first thing that struck me was that the reader/performer must have been the author, since there was such suppressed anger and vitriol. I was surprised to find that was not the case. However, it rings true, since I've often been told that every lb. of overweight is a lb. of anger unexpressed.

It bothered me that the author never dealt with her obesity. But she clearly stated at the beginning this is not what this book was to deliver. It left me feeling depressed, angry; wanting more. (Perhaps that says something about me not dealing with my issues?)

I do hope she got some peace at some point during her life. It would be a tragedy for this little, lost, unloved girl. My heart broke for her. If that was point of the book, and that is the only reason I could ascertain it was written, then the author succeeded.

I REALLY ENJOYED IT!

LOVE THE MESSAGE!

Love the message and the idea of the author reading it. Authors know what they want to convey and emphasize, so I think it is always a plus.

It was difficult for me to "get into" the book, however. I don't know it it was the author's voice or that I was irritated she was such a "bad" mother.

After the fourth try...and a book cluc deadline, I believe I received some Divine Inspiration. I'm single, have not had children and have NO IDEA how I would feel / react in that situation. After some reflection, she became a hero to me..... I don't know if I could have gotten OFF the COUCH to go to work?!

By the end of the book, I was in tears and loved it.... wanting to begin the tradition in my life and asking God for the inspiration /idea for whom I should choose. I may choose someone else who is single and alone. I just hope they don't have a doorbell camera!

Loved it!

I liked it, but didn't LOVE it as I thought I was going to. It just goes to show how you never really know a person, until you've heard his story.
