Agnieszka loves her valley home, her quiet village, the forests and the bright shining river. But the corrupted Wood stands on the border, full of malevolent power, and its shadow lies over her life. Her people rely on the cold, driven wizard known only as the Dragon to keep its powers at bay. But he demands a terrible price for his help: one young woman handed over to serve him for 10 years, a fate almost as terrible as falling to the Wood.

For those Joe Arden fans know that this is not a duel narration. Joe doesn’t speak until the last two minutes of the book. That being said I enjoyed the story but the narrator was all wrong for the part. She was excellent and gave an impeccable performance. But the character in the book is a 22-year-old foster child that has lived a hard life. The narrator sounded more in her 30s and too sophisticated for the part

Evie: I met him in a snowstorm.... We spent 48 hours trapped in the back of his pickup truck. We fought. We touched. We fell. Hard. Storm: She literally crashed into my life.... The last thing I wanted was a relationship. Especially with a quirky chick who drove me insane. But something about her got under my skin, and into my heart. And I had to have her. All of her. Now. Falling in love in the back of a truck, just the two of us, was easy. Dealing with psycho fans, jealous exes, and demons from the past...not so easy.

Growing up, the three of us were friends. He was the nerd. I was the playboy. She was the beauty. Deep down, I only ever wanted her. I kept it inside because Rory and I made a pact that our friend, Amber, was off-limits. He lied. I went off to college, and he got the girl. Amber never knew how I felt. They were together for years - before he broke her heart. Through it all and across the miles, she and I casually stayed in touch. When my job sent me to Boston for a three-month contract position, Amber let me stay in her spare room.

Jason Thorn...my brother's childhood friend. Oh, how stupidly in love with that boy I was. He was the first boy who made me blush, my first official crush. Sounds beautiful so far, right? That excitement that bubbles up inside you, those famous butterflies you feel for the very first time - he was the reason for them all. But you get to live in that fairy tale world only until they crush your hopes and dreams and then stomp on your heart for good measure. And boy did he crush my little heart into pieces.

I don't normally write reviews, but I'd hate for you to miss book two. I accidentally listened to book two first and fell in love with it. The narrators were great. Although I wish authors would stop using Sebastian York for 20 somethings. Yes, he's got that voice that can read me the phone book. But reading as a young 20 yr old, no. Just no. Time to move him to the older gentlemen characters.
The female narrator sounded like it was her first book, or she was trying to make an authors first book sound better then it was. I struggled. Thankfully I listened to book two first where she knocked it out of the ballpark and will look for her again.
So, my advice, Listen to To Hate Adam Connor (don't worry, no spoilers for book one in it), then circle back around to just listen to Olive and Jason's story to complete the saga.
Lastly, let's all agree it's time for Sebastian to move to mature characters.

At least her outer village is far removed from the cities of the sols, and she won't ever be forced to present herself to them... The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the Native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon came ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There went the good old days, when humans got killed only by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

They call him The Mute for a reason. Hard, cold, and calculated, he rarely speaks. When he does, it's with disdain. When he does, his words aren't meant for me. When he does, my stomach flips and my world tilts on its axis. He is 33. I am 18. He's a single dad and my father's business partner. I'm just a kid to him and his enemy's daughter. He's emotionally unavailable. And I am...feeling. Feeling things I shouldn't feel for him. Trent Rexroth is going to break my heart. The writing isn't just on the wall, it's inked on my soul.

Any additional comments?

ok, where to start. I don't know much about this author, I could be wrong, but I'd have to guess she's young. Very young. Not that I had any issues that would have directed me to think otherwise. Feels almost as shes getting most of her hot scenes from other books and wouldn't know how to elaborate more on them. She may have had an orgasim, she may not have. I'm guess never multiple if every scene ends with "and she had three more"

Before you listen to this book, you have to listen to the other three first or you'll be lost.

What drove me nuts was:
-She repeated herself quite a bit throughout the book. Either she felt as we were too stupid to remember or she forgot she had already mentioned things a half dozen times already. Almost like she needed to fill up air since most of the story lines were lacking.
-The herons in all there were very lacking in personalities. Almost To the point of whiny. I've dated men like these characters, and I promise, not one of them would have fell for the herons in each story. Kiddos for really getting into the characters of the men though. They pretty much kept me interested into the storyline. '
-all three books dragged out too much for the first half of the books. I get she was trying to build up suspense for the ending, but I think that where the "Filling air" part came in.

If it wasn't for Christian Rummel, I would have not listen to the whole series. This was my first audible series with him as a narrator and HE NAILED IT. He was why I keep coming back top finish the entire series. I will be seeking him out in others and adding him to my favorites.

My first also with Savannah Peachwood. She did well as she could with the low esteemed whiny characters she got. Or maybe is was how she read it. Hard to tell.

I did give the entire series 5 stars. I mean, I didn't hate it, I didnt love it. The writing was mediocre. The sex scene was mediocre as well. But overall, if this was her first time writing a series, I hope she gives more thought into developing the story over filling air with repetitiveness. But overall, I was entertained.
