This new edition of Perfect Daughters, a pivotal book in the ACoA movement, identifies what differentiates the adult daughters of alcoholics from other women. When this groundbreaking book first appeared over 10 years ago, Dr. Ackerman identified behavior patterns shared by daughters of alcoholics. Adult daughters of alcoholics - "perfect daughters" - operate from a base of harsh and limiting views of themselves and the world.

Born to a prominent Chicago judge and his stifled socialite wife, Mia Dennett moves against the grain as a young inner-city art teacher. One night, Mia enters a bar to meet her on-again, off-again boyfriend. But when he doesn't show, she unwisely leaves with an enigmatic stranger. With his smooth moves and modest wit, Colin Thatcher seems at first like a safe one-night stand. But following Colin home will turn out to be the worst mistake of Mia's life.

Studies show that each of us has a happiness set-point: a fixed range of happiness we tend to return to throughout our life that's about 50-percent genetic and 50-percent learned. In the same way, you'd crank up the thermostat to get comfortable on a chilly day, you can actually reprogram your happiness set-point to a higher level of peace and well-being. This life-changing program shows you how!

What did you love best about Happy for No Reason?

Absolutely great book. You can find most of the information included here in a variety of books. For some reason, I'm caught up in reading several of these types of books at the same time. But Marci Shimoff makes sure that you have all of the tools in the same place. I also love that this book points to the scientific backup for happiness. Twenty years ago this would have been consider "woo-woo" stuff. Now the federal government pays for treatments in some of these things because of the documented history. Read it. Just reading this book will rewire your brain for happiness.

Which scene was your favorite?

As a 12 stepper, I love that one of the final stories is about finding happiness in 12 step recovery in AlAnon. If for nothing else, I would highly recommend reading this book. ITs a tale of recovery done right.
