Offred is a Handmaid in the Republic of Gilead, serving in the household of the enigmatic Commander and his bitter wife. She may go out once a day to markets whose signs are now pictures because women are not allowed to read. She must pray that the Commander makes her pregnant, for in a time of declining birthrates her value lies in her fertility, and failure means exile to the dangerously polluted Colonies. Offred can remember a time when she lived with her husband and daughter and had a job, before she lost even her own name....

This is the most amazing narration I’ve ever heard. Claire Danes is so gifted, I felt I was there. Don’t hesitate to get this Audible. Book is brilliant also.

Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he's alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plainold "human error" are much more likely to kill him first.

What did you love best about The Martian?

You know a good book is a joy. I just finished listening to Andy Weir's The Martian. I'd already read the book before it was a big deal because Andy is an indie made good, so an inspiration to a lot of us. But I thought I'd give the Audible a listen since my son asked me to buy the book last year, so I added on the Audible.

It's just such a great story and, just like the first reading, I felt I was on Mars with Watney. Narration is perfect once you get Matt Damon's film character's voice out of your head. This book surely will be a classic.

What made the experience of listening to Free Fall the most enjoyable?

It's an interesting story and I liked the narrator's voice.

What did you like best about this story?

A unique sci-fi story line that I hadn't heard before

Have you listened to any of Jeff Hays’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, I haven't

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes.

Any additional comments?

This is a great little story, well worth a listen. It begins as one story and ends up introing into a whole other plot about the end of the world. Very original, like all of Peter Cawdron's books.
