In the early hours of a summer morning, a young woman steps into the path of an oncoming bus. A tragic accident? Or suicide? At the center of this puzzle is Adrian Wolfe, a successful architect and grief-stricken widower, who, a year after his third wife's death, begins to investigate the cause. As Adrian looks back on their brief but seemingly happy marriage, disturbing secrets begin to surface. The divorces from his two previous wives had been amicable, or so it seemed; his children, all five of them, were resilient as ever, or so he thought.

4.5 stars for me. Parts were a bit drawn out but all in all an interesting look into the lives of a large family all connected to each other by one man. Suppressed feelings of anger and devotion fuel this scattered and unorthodox story. Quote: I’m a moth but I need to be a cow.

This book hit on all the bases for me, a good mystery, smart story, a little history, with a touch of paranormal all wrapped up in a cold case investigation. When renovation starts on a long ago closed school for girls, a body is found in an old well on the property. The investigation seems to go no where until it becomes personal. A fast paced adult mystery that kept heading down so many different paths. Highly recommend.

When Detective Nick Fourcade enters the home of Genevieve Gauthier outside the sleepy town of Bayou Breaux, Louisiana, the bloody crime scene that awaits him is both the most brutal and the most confusing he's ever seen. Genevieve's seven-year-old son, P.J., has been murdered by an alleged intruder, yet Genevieve is alive and well, a witness inexplicably left behind to tell the tale. There is no evidence of forced entry, not a clue that points to a motive. Meanwhile, Nick's wife, Detective Annie Broussard, sits in the emergency room with the grieving Genevieve. A mother herself, Annie understands the emotional devastation this woman is going through.
