An 11-year-old boy's violated corpse is found in a town park. Eyewitnesses and fingerprints point unmistakably to one of Flint City's most popular citizens. He is Terry Maitland, Little League coach, English teacher, husband, and father of two girls. Detective Ralph Anderson, whose son Maitland once coached, orders a quick and very public arrest. Maitland has an alibi, but Anderson and the district attorney soon add DNA evidence to go with the fingerprints and witnesses. Their case seems ironclad.

I loved this book BUT about half way thru I almost gave up listening to ask for my credit back because of the Narrator. The way he tried to do most of the female voices was just awful. It was my love of Stephen King that made me stick to it and listen to the whole book. This is a veteran narrator so I just can't figure out why he made such a mess of it. SK should get someone else next time!

I have just finished reading this book for at least the third time and it still remains my favorite! There is not a single word on any page that I wish could be changed! I have purchased Black House in every form; Paperback, Cassett and lastly from Audible! I believe that the audio versions are the best because they helped me to gain a tiny bit of understanding about questions that Stephen King readers are sometimes left with after reading some of his books. The fact that Stephen King and Peter Straub Joined forces to write it does not go unnoticed but they would have to explain to me how the book was improved by their collaboration.
The frosting on the cake is that this audiobook is read by one of the greatest readers of all time, Frank Muller. He takes you there........ he really brings this one to life.

Would you try another book from Robert Dugoni and/or Emily Sutton-Smith?

Not sure.

Has My Sister's Grave turned you off from other books in this genre?

I found this book impossible to follow. After stopping in about the middle of it at least 3 times to return to the beginning, I felt the time had come to return it.

What aspect of Emily Sutton-Smith’s performance would you have changed?

Any additional comments?

I just didnt get it.

I got about half way through this novel when I decided I just don't care to listen any longer. I had not come even close to understanding the plot. The deal breaker for me is Scott Brick as the narrator, I find his southern accent in this novel so phoney and pretentious that I just could not stand to hear another word.

I loved this book SO much and when I read the first review that was written for this book I felt so sorry for waiting to give my opinion. I think that anyone that enjoyed watching "The Duchess of Duke Street" and/or "Upstairs, Downstairs" on PBS would probably like this story as well or more. This is not a book for the squeamish so if you cannot tolerate a certain amount of sex and unpleasantness, don't bother. I was able to keep track of the many characters quite easily, partly because the narrator is so easily understood. Once I started listening, I was so hooked! I finished this almost 42 hour book in just 10 days and wished it was longer. The ending was excellent. It was a bargain for just one credit. (Editor NOT needed, thank you very much).

At least the folks that buy the book have a choice if they want to listen to the music or not! I find having to fast forward through the singing so annoying that I probably will not listen to the rest of this book. I have been a big fan of Jodi Picoult until now. Sorry I wasted a credit on this one.

"Room" by Emma Donoghue

Overall

Reviewed: 10-27-10

The down side of listening to "Room" by Emma Donoghue is that it is nearly impossible to find a book as good to follow it! I consider this audio book to be my best listen to date. I thought the narration of the child's voice was really believable. The situation was similar to several true stories we have heard on the news of kidnapping and imprisonment. Listening to the audio sample of "Room", I was a little unsure if I would like it. I had tried to listen to the book "Me and Emma" by Elizabeth Flock and the narration of the child's voice in it was so annoying to me that I just could not get into the book. I gave it several tries. not wanting to waste my precious credit. When I finished "Room" I immediately went back to the beginning and listened a second time. A very well spent credit for sure!!!!
