Decades before the American Revolution, Benjamin Franklin lamented that English settlers were constantly fleeing over to the Indians - but Indians almost never did the same. Tribal society has been exerting an almost gravitational pull on Westerners for hundreds of years, and the reason lies deep in our evolutionary past as a communal species. The most recent example of that attraction is combat veterans who come home to find themselves missing the incredibly intimate bonds of platoon life.

Thought provoking and challenging, in the sense that the author urges us to find our inner tribal qualities.

A great reading of a gripping and gruesome tale. This is my 6th or 7th Douglas Preston and I'm still loving them.

This was a surprise. A nice twist on the treasure hunt / pirate genre. Definitely one of Douglas Preston's best efforts.

Black Thursday. The day that will never be forgotten. The day that four passenger planes crash, at almost exactly the same moment, at four different points around the globe. There are only four survivors. Three are children, who emerge from the wreckage seemingly unhurt. But they are not unchanged. And the fourth is Pamela May Donald, who lives just long enough to record a voice message on her phone. A message that will change the world. The message is a warning.

Any additional comments?

A wonderful if not flawed commentary on modern society's penchant for drama, melodrama and hysteria. From the word "go" you know this isn't going to work out well for "The Three" or anyone connected with them. Sarah does a wonderful job of capturing each character's flaws while still making them appealing.

Disappointing, dated drivel. I bought this because so many of David's articles I have read about personal finance are good - great in fact. So why the diatribe of an opening chapter about September 11? David's politcal views are US centric, unsophisticated, naive and unbearable to listen to.

I downloaded this after seeing the new Zodiac film with Jake Gyllenhaal. Unbelievably dense in detail and very well narrated, this is a chilling tale. 5 stars.
