Conor Maguire and his daughter, Barb, planned to weather the apocalypse by keeping to themselves, hidden from the world in their compound deep in the Appalachian Mountains. Their approach failed, allowing bad men to get too close and kidnap Barb. After rescuing her in a violent bloodbath that decimated the kidnappers, Conor realized it was time to enlist his community to work together to improve their security. They had better work fast.

Once again the Mad Mick demonstrates his ability to track down and deal with anyone who threatens his friends or family. His friends now residing in his compound add a level of irritations not only with the Mick, but Barb as well. Barb is a volcano with constant rumblings. The only negative part of the book, for me at least, is Barb's constant volatility. Finding out about the Mick's past with his friend adds more to his story and endears him even more. I would hope for more of the Mick, providing Barb stops trying to kill anyone who happens to say something she doesn't agree with. ;)

Recently engaged and deeply ensconced in her third year of surgical residency in Chicago, Emily Hartford gets a shock when she is called home to Freeport, Michigan, the small town she fled a decade ago after the death of her mother. Her estranged father, the local medical examiner, has had a massive heart attack. At the hospital, she finds her father in near total denial of the seriousness of his condition. He insists that the best thing Emily can do to help him is to take on the autopsy of a senator's teen daughter whose sudden, unexplained death has just rocked the sleepy town.

I wish I had read the reviews before purchasing. The story had me going, would she get Nick? What happened with her mother? Will her father live to tell? Will she stay and take over the practice? So many questions, all unanswered. The story just ended, period. I checked my iPod to see if it had a problem, nope, the book just ended. If this is going to be a sequel, the author doesn't give a hint. I am really disappointed. The narrator had a rather flat monotone throughout which made getting involved difficult. Be warned.

It was a typical evening at a mall outside Portland, Maine. Three teenage friends waited for the movie to start. A boy flirted with the girl selling sunglasses. Then the shooters arrived. The chaos and carnage lasted only eight minutes before the killers were taken down. But one person wasn't satisfied with the shockingly high death toll at the DownEast Mall. And as the survivors slowly heal, find shelter, and rebuild, they will discover that another conspirator is lying in wait - and this time, there might be nowhere safe to hide.

I am almost done and can tell I'm going to have to listen to this again. There's so much always going on from one chapter to the next. It's a bit predictable, but that doesn't detract from the excitement at all. The villains are bad, the good guys are good and love is in the air. What more do you need? I have a feeling I'm going to like this almost as much as I like "The Witness" and that's saying a lot.

So jump on the paperback, the kindle or the audible, but do NOT miss out on this story. You have another great hit Nora!

This was one of the most exciting books I've listened to in a long time. I had to go back and listen to it again just to catch the underlying tension here and there. The characters are believable and a couple I really wanted to see get the hammer lowered.

No matter what media you choose, you'll enjoy this book if you like fast paced action and dogs. I must admit Bert won my heart. I have to give kudos to the narrator, Julia Whelan, she did a great job and made Abagail and company come alive.

I wonder if this could have a sequel. That would be awesome!

Little else in life is as dangerous as fire jumping. Flying past towering pillars of smoke, parachuting down to the edge of an all-consuming blaze, shoveling and sawing for hours upon hours, days at a time, all to hold the line and push back against the raw power of Mother Nature. But there’s also little else as thrilling - at least to Rowan Tripp. The Missoula smoke jumpers are one of the most exclusive firefighting squads in the nation, and the job is in Rowan’s blood: her father is a legend in the field. She’s been fighting fires since her eighteenth birthday.

It seems to take forever to get to the crime. And call me a prude, but the language is just a bit beyond good taste. Surely there are other exclamations than J C... and the fluid, frequent f bombs. Rowan is not the gal you want to be on the bad side of and I hope the best for her. I'm about 1/2 way through and not sure I can finish it.

Nora Roberts has been a favorite author til this one. I enjoyed The Witness and was looking forward to this one *sigh*

When Jack Hunt and Kevin Pierce get together, count your time as very well spent listening to the best. I had to listen all in one setting, there was just no putting it down for later.

I always knew Alaska was my least favorite place, now I know why! The good people of Alaska are tough and in this story, they need to be very tough. It's an exciting story of the good, the bad and the very ugly. I was on the edge of my seat all through this thriller. I'm really glad it's not winter now!

Don't wait to add this to your collection of stories you'll want to listen to more than once.

Pilgrimage is a stand-alone post-apocalyptic story of survival. It was previously published as three separate novellas: Crossing, Refuge, and Advent. High School teacher James Rockwell is vacationing in Maine with his family, when an earth-changing explosion sends them on a race for their lives. Their first step is escaping an island in the midst of a tsunami, and it only gets more dangerous from there. Can they find their way home as civilization crumbles around them? And if they do, what horrors will they find?

Lots of action and I really liked the characters, well the good ones anyway ;) If or when this country is attacked, I can absolutely see this happening. There will be groups that come together because there's safety in numbers. There will be some good guys, maybe more bad guys will survive. But one thing we all know, the cockroach will survive. I'm anxiously awaiting the next installment!

Follow along with what could very well be the fact of life soon. It wouldn't take much.

In this series Ava has to decide how to proceed through a ton of problems and sadness. But, really there's only one decision for her. I admire the characters of Ava's team in this drama. Ava has wonderful friends and the love she so deserves. It's a treat to watch her grow.

The Bible quotes at the beginning of each chapter are so relevant. I'm a King James Bible person, and am pleased when my ears detect the KJV. Mark Goodwin knows how to tell a story without resorting to the base dialogue so prevalent in most books today. I am so anxious for the next installment.
