In Full Upright and Locked Position, former FAA chief counsel and senior aviation policy official Mark Gerchick unravels the unseen forces and little-known facts that have reshaped our air travel experience since September 11, 2001. With wry humor and unique insight, Gerchick takes us past the jargon, technicalities, and all-is-well platitudes to expose the new normal of air travel: from the packed planes and myriad hassles of everyday flying to the alchemy of air fares, the airlines' endless nickel-and-diming, and the elusive hope of escape from steerage.

Thumbing across the scorched West Texas desert, loner Jack Reacher has nowhere to go and all the time in the world to get there. Cruising the same stretch of two-lane blacktop is pretty Carmen Greer. But for Reacher, the lift comes with a hitch. Carmen's got a story to tell, and it's a wild one. All about her husband, her family secrets, and a hometown that's pure Gothic. She's also got a plan. Jack Reacher's part of it. And before the sun sets, this ride could cost them both their lives.

I'm working through the Reacher series and this one was OK. I liked most of it and will continue the series. Reacher was super human as usual. The little girl didn't seem to fit well and seemed out of context sometimes - too knowledgeable for her age at times, not mature enough at others. I also didn't like the way the narrator read the little girl's lines, so that may be impacting my impression. If your a Jack Reacher fan, this is worth listening to. If you haven't listened to any Reacher books yet, start at the beginning of the series!

If you could sum up Home in three words, what would they be?

Very good book

What did you like best about this story?

The history of her life and her own narration. We all know she was in Sound of Music and some of the other US movies, but I wasn't aware of her background or her stage experience.

Have you listened to any of Julie Andrews’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Not really, I just listen during my commute to and from work.

Any additional comments?

A pleasant listen and a nice change from the whodunnit books that I usually listen to.

Would you consider the audio edition of The Brass Verdict to be better than the print version?

I haven't read the print version, so I cannot comment

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Not on the edge, but it kept me listening.

What does Peter Giles bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Not sure. When I read a book I "hear" different voices for different characters. He does a really good job of changing his voice to enable the listener to discern which of the various characters is speaking.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Not really. I listen during my commute to work.

Any additional comments?

I've been a Bosch fan and just started listening to Haller a couple weeks ago. I was surprised by the appearance of Bosch, but it makes sense.

Haller is a Lincoln Lawyer, a criminal defense pro who operates out of the backseat of his Lincoln Town Car, to defend clients at the bottom of the legal food chain. It's no wonder that he is despised by cops, prosecutors, and even some of his own clients. But an investigator is murdered for getting too close to the truth and Haller quickly discovers that his search for innocence has taken him face to face with a kind of evil as pure as a flame.

While the book was as much about Dr. Omalu as it was about thhe discovery and cause of CTE, it was very enlightening. It was a testament on his survival and immigration plight as well as his rise to success in the US.

My two sons chose not to play football but rather baseball and swimming. I'm glad they did.

I truly believe we will see the end of football as we know it today within the next 25 years, if not sooner. The damage from repeated hits to the head and subsequently diagnosed CTE cannot be ignored.

Before Chipper Jones became an eight-time All-Star who amassed Hall of Fame-worthy statistics during a 19-year career with the Atlanta Braves, he was just a country kid from small-town Pierson, Florida. A kid who grew up playing baseball in the backyard with his dad, dreaming that one day he'd be a major league ballplayer. With his trademark candor and astonishing recall, Chipper Jones tells the story of his rise to the MLB ranks and what it took to stay with one organization his entire career in an era of booming free agency.
