I admit that I listened to the first book in this series three times and read the hardcopy as well. I was worried that the second book may not live up to my expectations. I should have known better! Shemer Kuznits does as wonderful a job with this instalment as with the first. The series has amazing world building and very memorable characters. I'm very invested in the story and can't wait to see what comes next. Jeff Hayes (along with Annie and Laurie) did a wonderful job with the narration, as usual!

Unfortunately, he also stumbles into an age-old battle between good and evil - and he is now its newest recruit. The island once belonged to the Amazons, but Jacob’s arrival has awakened the old gods and disturbed the seal holding the ravaging darkness at bay.

What a fantastic book! I loved the concept behind this book and found it to be a very original take on the LitRPG genre. The Greek mythology aspect was interesting and added a lot of depth to the story as my brain went back in time to remember all of the mythology I'd learned in school. This was an engaging listen and the time flew by. Before I knew it, I was at the end and hoping that James Hunter and Arron Crash have a sequel coming. I think my favourite part was the characters. They're very vivid and made me care about what happened to them. Love that in a book! A final comment on the narrator, Armen Taylor. I wondered how he was going to pull of narrating a bunch of Amazons. I was really pleased with how he represented them. He managed to convey the female voices very well and the Amazons came across as stately, even when they started to pick up modern vernacular. With quite a few Amazon voices to portray, Armen found a way to give them all a distinct voice. This is one of the most enjoyable books I've listened to in a while!

It’s been a busy month for 32-year-old Jack Mitchel: Three weeks ago, he died. Two weeks ago, he founded the first Faction in the ultra-immersive, fantasy-based VRMMORPG, Viridian Gate Online. A week and a half ago the world ended, destroyed by a cataclysmic asteroid. Seven days ago, he conquered the Imperial city of Rowanheath, bringing all of Eldgard to the brink of war.

Where does Viridian Gate Online: The Jade Lord: A litRPG Adventure rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This now ranks in the top of the LITRPG books I've listened to. Loved the story, loved the characters, great narration. I went from not knowing James Hunter to being a big fan. His writing has a great combination of action and humour along with well-developed characters that make you care about them.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes. Not only that but I included the first and second book of the series in a marathon listening session over the period of a couple days. Now if you'll excuse me, I think it's time to go and start binging on the author's other books! Can't wait for more in this series!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I'd recommend this to any friends who love the LITRPG genre or those I'm trying to get into it. I found the premise of this story to be an interesting change from typical stories in the genre. The characters really brought this story to life and I was quickly invested in what happened to them, so the time listening went by quickly. I hope there's a sequel soon!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

While it wasn't practical to listen to this book in one sitting, given the length, I was quickly pulled into the story and listened over three days. I kept finding myself going back to it even when I should have been doing other things.... like sleeping!

The virtual world of Barliona is a place of rest and entertainment - but not for everyone. It has become a survival arena for Daniel Mahan after he was sentenced to eight years in its virtual jail. Mahan has been through it all: the back-breaking work in the mines, betrayal by other prisoners, and finally, the retrial which has released him into Barliona's common world. What more could one want? Mahan could have kept a low profile and enjoyed relative freedom while serving the rest of his time.

What about Jonathan Yen’s performance did you like?

Jonathan Yen does a fantastic job with the voices in this series. He manages a wide variety of different character backgrounds and makes them all distinct. I hadn't listened to anything with Jonathan as a narrator in the past, but he's now on my list of narrators to watch for.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I did listen to this book in one sitting! Right after I listened to the second one in the series in one sitting. These books have a way of drawing you in and keeping you deeply immersed in the story.

Any additional comments?

Can't wait for more of the series!

Would you consider the audio edition of Survival Quest to be better than the print version?

The print version (which I purchased after listening to all three books currently on Audible in the series) is also very good. However, Jonathan Yen does a great job of bringing the characters to life. So, from that perspective, I loved the audio version. (That said, when I did read the book, the characters were so well defined from listening that I could hear their voices in my head as I read.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I didn't have an extreme emotional reaction to the book. However, I did a an extreme immersion into the story. I was on the fence about trying this one, but it is in my top 3 favourite series at this point. I listened to the first book almost non-stop and then just continued on, listening to the entire series in the period of a couple days. I've listened to them a couple more times since then. They're just as entertaining on the re-listens.

Any additional comments?

I hope that as additional books by Vasily Mahanenko are translated into English (either this series or any of his other works), that they become available on Audible. I'll definitely read them and, as I have with this one, recommend them to my friends. Especially those who are also gamers!

I'm not usually a fan of this genre but a friend recommended the series. I was surprised at how quickly it hooked me. I love the combination of historical reference and intelligent pop culture call outs. The narrator does a fantastic job on the entire series. He is now in my top two favourite Audible narrators. He does an amazing job of bringing the characters and and cultures to life. I'd write more but I have to get on to listening to Hunted. I can't wait to see what happens next!
