This was a great concept and a fun story in the beginning. About half way through the book it completely goes off the rails. The story goes in strange directions and in general became hard to follow and boring. Sad turn of events, probably won’t finish listening to the whole story.

Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he's alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plainold "human error" are much more likely to kill him first.

I read this before the movie came out and it is fantastic. The back story that isn't in the movie is AMAZING. you should read this even if you have already seen the movie. Not only is it packed with scientific conundrums for the main character, but the humor of the book is HILARIOUS and does not make it into the movie in the same way.

At once wildly original and stuffed with irresistible nostalgia, Ready Player One is a spectacularly genre-busting, ambitious, and charming debut—part quest novel, part love story, and part virtual space opera set in a universe where spell-slinging mages battle giant Japanese robots, entire planets are inspired by Blade Runner, and flying DeLoreans achieve light speed.

Little different genre but check on the King Killer Chronicles (book 3, still waiting by the way!). But books 1 and 2 are the best books I have read in years. Get this one and those.

Love Neal, but I am 2/3rd of the way through this book and nothing had happened yet. I would pass on this one so far. Go to some of his better work like Snow Crash, The Diamond Age or Crptonomicon, if your looking for a page turner. Could update this review if I can get through the rest of the book.

I found the journal at work. Well, I don't know if you'd call it work, but that's where I found it. It's the lost journal of Nikola Tesla, one of the greatest inventors and visionaries ever. Before he died in 1943, he kept a notebook filled with spectacular claims and outrageous plans.
