General Travis Bains has two daughters, one who is good and one who is bad. Everyone knows Lindsey is the good one, and Jessie is the bad one. Jessie Bains is the other sister, the bad sister, which she has proven more often than not until the day she gets kidnapped and brutally raped. Will Hendricks, one of her father's soldiers, rescues her and brings her home but fears she may be nearly destroyed by what has been done to her. The most important thing, however, is that no one can know.

This is a heart wrenching tale of mental and physical abuse that I could not put down. At times, I wasn't even sure it was going to have a happy ending but I still had to keep listening. It is also about hope and coming back from the edge. Just for those in doubt, there is an HEA.

Terrorists-for-hire have created a weapon that can induce earthquakes and cause dormant volcanoes to erupt. One terrifying side effect of the weapon is that prior to the devastation, the vibrations drive ordinary people to suicide and violence. A wave of madness begins sweeping the country beginning with a mass shooting in Congress. Joe Ledger and his team go on a wild hunt to stop the terrorists and uncover the global superpower secretly funding them. At every step the stakes increase as it becomes clear that the endgame of this campaign of terror is igniting the Yellowstone caldera.

Mystery fans will appreciate the twists and turns in Lowcountry Bookshop. Ms. Boyer put together the pieces of this mystery in a way that I did not foresee. I had considered at least four different scenarios and had not even thought of the ultimate twist! I live in the greater Charleton area and I am always impressed by Ms. Boyer's attention to detail. If you have travelled to Charleston, SC, you may recognize some of the venues mentioned. If you have never been to the Holy City, please take note of restaurants, theaters, churches and historic sites and put them on your bucket list!

I was not engaged in this book and only continued listening to see what happened to the third sister. I did not care for the narration at all and kept increasing the speed. I am not sure why Audible chose different narrators for this series but the first two were good. Unfortunately, this one was not. There was very little character development and a predictable plot. Also, I would have loved some more information about the sisters' father and thought we might get a wrap up in this book, so I was disappointed in that.

On a chilly February night, during a screening of Psycho in midtown, someone sunk an ice pick into the back of Chanel Rylan's neck, then disappeared quietly into the crowds of drunks and tourists in Times Square. To Chanel's best friend, who had just slipped out of the theater for a moment to take a call, it felt as unreal as the ancient black-and-white movie up on the screen. But Chanel's blood ran red, and her death was anything but fictional.
