Everyone in Cedar Creek, Texas, knows Jack McNight is an arrogant devil. Physically, I get it: he’s tan and fit, with coal-black hair that’s clearly been scorched by hellfire. Oh, and his personality? It burns just as hot. When I show up on the doorstep of Blue Stone Ranch, I’m run-down and rockin’ my last pair of underwear. I’m hoping for a savior, but instead, I find him. My opinion of Jack is marred by a dismal first impression, but his opinion of me is tainted even before I arrive. He’s heard I’m a spoiled princess there to take advantage of his goodwill.

This is my first book by this author and it is unfortunately an extremely amateur attempt at rom-com. The story is simple but very long and boring with no real character development or plot devices. Tries way too hard to be “clever” and/or “funny”. WAY WAY too much emphasis on the main female character being fat, overweight, frumpy, etc. (okay we get it! Yikes so awkward)

The writing is pretty terrible (as others have mentioned) with the over-use of the tags, "Said Min", "Said Cal", “she said”, “he said”… so often during long conversations that it was totally cringe worthy.

I am a huge fan of this series and I think the characters and the writing are amazing. However, I have been trying to enjoy these audio versions and the female narrator is just so darn hard on my ears. The voice inflection that she has chosen to use for Harlow is especially bizarre and I seriously can't even make it through the first couple chapters. I am so so sad that one of my favorite books in this entire series is ruined by the terrible narration.

Resonance. It's a given on the ice planet, forced upon you by the parasitic symbiont called the "khui". With resonance, a guy and a girl are paired up because they'll make great babies. It's a survival mechanism necessary for this sparsely populated world we're stranded on. Everyone expects resonance to happen when 20 newcomers are dropped onto the frosty world. I doubt anyone expects the gorgeous golden god named Ashtar to resonate to someone like me, though. But resonance seems to think we'd be great together. And Ashtar does, too.

Being an assistant/housekeeper/fairy godmother to the top defensive end in the National Football Organization was always supposed to be temporary. I understand that this author is known for the “slow-burn” stories but this is a bit painful. One sentence will be followed up by 10 minutes of explaining that sentence. At some point it just becomes verbal diarrhea. Stay focused on the story and it could be amazing.

A skilled criminal. A beautiful liar. A bully and a savior, a monster and a lover. Ten years ago, he made me run away from the small town where we lived. Now, he came for me in New York, and he isn't leaving until he takes me with him.

This book is really awful. The characters are so badly written that you have no empathy for either character. The overall story is like a teenage high-school drama where the male lead is an entitled spoiled bully and the female lead is a total push-over (yet she is totally madly in love with him even while he is beyond abusive to her and her entire family).

I also had a really hard time listening to the horrible breathy/whispering voice of the female narrator. I listen to a lot of audio books and this narrator is one of the most annoying I've ever experienced. Maybe she was trying too hard - not sure?

Where to start?! First of all, this series is so amazing and I love this author. I have loved Regan in all the previous books and was really looking forward to her story. However, the male lead character Chase is absolutely terrible. The first 85% of the book is him kidnapping and torturing Regan and all of her friends and family (including children) in horrific ways. Towards the middle, Regan tried explaining to him about his reincarnations but it was ludicrous that he absolutely could not wrap his head around this to believe her (I mean really!?! You are surrounded by mythical creatures and the lore but you don't believe this??? eye roll...). This story took his actions just way too far for him to eventually be redeemable as a likable/lovable character in the end. Personally, I liked the original direction of the story with Aiden and would have preferred to get rid of Chase completely.

The breakout favorite character of this book was definitely young Thad (love him!!!). The narration was awesome as usual by Robert Petkoff.
