Thirty-five years ago, Mario Puzo's great American tale, The Godfather, was published, and popular culture was indelibly changed. Now, in The Godfather Returns, acclaimed novelist Mark Winegardner continues the story, the years not covered in Puzo's best-selling book or in Francis Ford Coppola's classic films.

In a voice both haunting and startlingly immediate, Nitta Sayuri describes her life as a geisha. Taken from her home at the age of nine, she is sold into slavery to a renowned geisha house. Witness her transformation as you enter a world where appearances are paramount, virginity is auctioned to the highest bidder, women beguile powerful men, and love is scorned as illusion.

Great book, well written. Having lived 3 years in Japan and being familiar with the culture it gave greater insight into the role of the gheisha and dispelled certain myths about them. Very entertaining and spellbinding.

Boston's premier P.I. investigates the murder of a prominent local banker with family ties to the Mayflower - and perhaps the mob. It's hard not to imagine the victim's young bride as the one with her finger on the trigger. Even her lawyer thinks she's guilty. But Mary Smith is entitled to the best defense she can afford - and thanks to her late husband's millions, she can afford plenty - so Spenser hires on to investigate.

Story line is good but the writer has too many I said, she said, he said in it. If these were left out, the book would be half the length. because of that it is hard to get into this book.
