Plagued by a war between magic and technology, Atlanta has never been so deadly. Good thing Kate Daniels is on the job. Kate Daniels may have quit the Order of Merciful Aid, but she's still knee-deep in paranormal problems. Or she would be if she could get someone to hire her. Starting her own business has been more challenging than she thought it would be - now that the Order is disparaging her good name, and many potential clients are afraid of getting on the bad side of the Beast Lord, who just happens to be Kate's mate.

Equally dangerous are the competing factions of The Pack - a highly organized and military clan who governs Atlanta's were-bears, -wolves, and -hyenas - versus the Masters of the Dead, power and knowledge-hungry necromancers whose minds control hordes of blood-crazed vampires.

We met in a trapped elevator. Emmett was on his way to work, sophisticated and handsome in his tailored suit and tie. I was on my way to the sperm bank. Awkward, right? At 35, my life hadn't taken the path I thought it would and I was tired of waiting - I wanted a baby. And I was ready to take matters into my own hands to make it happen. After our ill-fated elevator encounter, Emmett insisted on taking me to dinner - he also insisted on something else - that I ditch my plan involving a turkey baster and let him do the job. He would be my baby daddy.

Perfection. One word. Three syllables. Every reason why I'll never have the one thing I truly want. I stand dutifully on the pedestal he's built, waiting for the day he truly sees me. Then one amazing night, he lets down his walls, only to leave me the next day. Years have passed, and I've tried to move on with my life. But I still dream of him. I still miss him everyday. The memories haunt me. How can I look to the future when my past remains a mystery? The time has come to find the boy who stole my heart and ran away without a word.

This was my first ever audio. And this set the bar for how I like my stories to be read to me. A thorough mindf*ck that leaves you questioning your reading comprehension. I've read this book at least 4 times and listened to it on audio at least 3 times, and each time I'm still as stunned by the twists and turns that take place in this plot!!! Merc is spotted in earlier Julie books, but this is finally his book. We meet Sydney for a very short time in an earlier book. No you don't have to read the earlier books to follow this one, but it does increase the suspense and enjoyment of this book.

I really did question my sanity when I realized I loved this book the first time I read it. There a few instances where I wondered why is Merc my all time favorite Julie character. This book is not for the easily offended, but if you see it through to the end you will be blown away!!!

Anna Riordan and Troy Duran did an amazing job of bringing these characters and this story to life. Troy has been my favorite narrator since this book.

As with all books that I listen to, I've already read this. I only buy the audible if I love the story because I want the experience of listening to narrators bring my favorite stories to life. If you haven't listened to Him first, stop and go there first. Us is the continuing story of Jamie and Wes. It's a beautifully written story of what comes after the HEA. It's the ups and downs of being in a challenging relationship. It's the acceptance of not having the perfect relationship while being perfectly in love. It's the reality of love.

I love both Teddy Hamilton and Jacob Morgan as narrators. I've heard them in other stories, and I love how they both bring different emotions to the various parts and scenes they play. When Jamie and Wes are struggling as a couple, Teddy and Jacob do a phenomenal job of giving the listener the perfect amount of emotion to make those scenes tear worthy.
