Disillusioned with her corporate legal career, attorney Charlotte Ambler volunteers to handle the final appeal of Christopher Ritter, a Florida death row inmate whose execution is imminent. Ritter had been a prominent biologist before being convicted 10 years earlier for the brutal murder of a prostitute. He denies killing the woman but is tormented by guilt for other, secret transgressions. The only appeal he will allow is to prove that he is innocent - a kind of appeal which is almost impossible to succeed.

This book is full of twists and turns. Just when I thought I knew what was happening, I found out I didn't. It was very entertaining and full of action. If you enjoy pondering existential questions like: do people have souls, does good and evil really exist, ss there a real Devil...well...this book is for you.

The narrator had just the right tone for the book and portrayed all of the characters in a believable way. Overall, it was time well spent and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

It is a shame that the publicity tour for this book got hi-jacked by sexual harassment questions for Bill Clinton. James Patterson never got a chance to talk about the book. I bought it, because I trust James Patterson as an impeccable story teller, and he did not disappoint. It was edge of your seat, cat and mouse all the way. It even had a plot twist at the end that I did not see coming, which is hard to do since, haven't we seen/read it all by now? This book is highly entertaining and well worth your time. Dennis Quaid was perfect as the President, although his rough voice could be distracting when voicing other characters. The other narrators were also perfectly cast, especially January LaVoy as the melancholy assassin. Listen to this book. You will love it.

The plot of the book includes many of the elements you would expect in an international thriller. Kidnapping, espionage, murders, explosions etc. It was all there and then some. What really made the book great for me were the well developed and well portrayed characters. Even the dog had me rooting for him! I will definitely go back and listen to the other books in this series.

Overall, I enjoyed this book very much. It provided a complex mystery to solve and the characters were well developed and well written. There was a part in the middle that kind of dragged, I think maybe one too many set backs perhaps. But the resolution was satisfying and tied all the story elements together nicely.

The narration was good, the pace was perfect and the characters were portrayed believably.

On paper, Chris Brennan looks perfect. He's applying for a job as a high school government teacher, he's ready to step in as an assistant baseball coach, and his references are impeccable. But everything about Chris Brennan is a lie. Susan Sematov is proud of her son, Raz, a high school pitcher so athletically talented that he's being recruited for a full-ride scholarship to a Division I college, with a future in major league baseball. But Raz’s father died only a few months ago, leaving her son in a vulnerable place where any new father figure might influence him for good - or evil.

This was my first book by this author but it will not be my last. The story was intriguing, the characters were engaging and the plot twist at the end was well played. The thing I liked the most was the way the book explored larger concepts like what it means to be human and where does our moral compass come from?

The narrator was excellent and really brought these compelling characters to life. His style and delivery were perfect for Agent G.

I truly enjoyed the characters in this book. It is pretty common today to have a flawed hero at the center of the story, but Rick Cahill is not just flawed he is seriously damaged, but he has a dry sense of humor, he is trying to do the right thing and you really do end up rooting for him in the end. The book left some unanswered questions, which is ok, since it is a series, I will be looking for more and hopefully I will get those answers.

The narration was spot on. I was hooked from the beginning and the narrators tone matched the action in the book perfectly.

As Wendy does her job and tries to find the killer, Culverhouse is less keen. As far as he's concerned, this is justice. With Culverhouse's attitude and stubbornness leaving him on the sidelines, Wendy delves deeper into the dark and murky world of Jeff Brelsford, and what she discovers is enough to shock her to her core.
