The White Lich has conquered Tanar Atain. Soon, he means to take the entire world. Dante suspects his next target will be Bressel, where the Tanarians have established their court in exile. The only chance to stop the lich will be to forge a fragile alliance between the bitter enemies of three different lands: Tanar Atain, Mallon, and Narashtovik. The city stands on the brink of rebellion. Yet even if Dante, Blays, and Gladdic can unite it, they still might not have the strength to stand against the army of the lich.

I have listened to all of the Cycle of Arawn and Cycle of Galand books and enjoyed them all. Most of this book, unfortunately (for me) was consumed by one battle, with very little story-building until the last 2 hours. I still anxiously await book 6, hoping to tie up some of the loose ends and get back to the clever writing and witty characters I have come to enjoy.

The world is falling to the burning shadow of the Possessed and only the power of a battle mage can save it. But the ancient bond with dragonkind is failing. Of those that answer a summoning too many are black. Black dragons are the enemy of humankind. Black dragons are mad. Falco Dante is a weakling in a world of warriors, but worse than this, he is the son of a madman. Driven by grief, Falco makes a decision that will drive him to the brink of despair. Battle Mage is by far the most action packed book I I’ve listened to!!! Great for people who are trying to get into literature or audiobooks. The plot is a classic tale of the traditional “hero’s journey.” The book picks up quickly and continually enhances the tension, action and drama as it proceeds. The book is fairly predictable in that everything that one thinks should happen does happen. However, the joy of discovering how the plot will unravel leaves the reader/listener always wanting to come back for more. One note to audible, the quality of the recording seems a bit muffled at times. RD Watson was the perfect voice to tell this tale!!!
