London, 1786. Lord Henri-Antoine has returned from the Grand Tour to a life of privilege and excess. A vast inheritance allows him every indulgence, free from responsibility. Yet, Henri-Antoine maintains a well-ordered existence, going to great lengths to conceal an affliction few understand and many fear. Miss Lisa Crisp is a penniless orphan who relies on the charity of relatives to keep her from the poorhouse. Intelligent and unflappable, Lisa will not allow poverty to define her. She leads a useful life working among the sick poor.

Loved this story! Another divine narration by Nicholas Boulton. I read "FMLH" just before and loved the characters and their development throughout the series.

New York Times best-selling author Alison Weir tells the spellbinding tale of the last days of Henry VIII’s second wife. Accused of adultery, incest, and treason, Anne Boleyn is locked in the Tower of London on May 2, 1536. Despite maintaining her innocence, she’s quickly condemned to death. Soon, one sword stroke sends her into eternity. But as her remains rot in the sun—unblessed by coffin, marker, or funeral—few know the truth behind her swift demise.

Would you try another book from Alison Weir and/or Judith Boyd?

This is not written in story form. It has loads of info, but is not the exciting tale that I was looking for to pass the hours away cooking and cleaning. Loved the info, and love Alison Weir. If I'd have known, I'd have found something else.

It's a shame

Overall

It's a shame that so much of Diana Gabaldon's lovely writing is butchered in the abridged versions. Both this and A Breath of Snow and Ashes were abridged so much, I found it difficult to keep from feeling a bit lost when going back to the unabridged version of An Echo in the Bone. It felt like so many pieces were missing. My advice is to buy the book to read it and/or wait for unabridged version to come to audible.
