This series has it all for Sci-Fi buffs. The intelligent writing is top-notch with humor, action, scientific explanations that make sense, fantastic story-lines that always have a surprise in store, and great characters. The narrator, R.C. Bray, is a perfect pairing. You only have to look at the ratings and the number of people who have left them to know that this is a series not to be missed. Certainly I'm hooked.....

It doesn't happen often, but my reaction to this narrator has influenced my enjoyment of the story. I am going to return the book, but decided to speed up the voice to 1.65 (this is a fast speed that I have not had to use before). The story, although still barely O.K., then at least became listenable. I'm thru with this genre.

I have been a fan of this series from the start and hope that audible continues to offer further adventures from Michael Grumley. Scott Brick does a good job as narrator, although I am about to commit heresy by saying this, I think he needs to be sped up. I have to listen at 1.25 speed.

The only reason to mention the "Wizard of Oz" and "Harry Potter" is to put them into the top tier of their genre. Let's add this book and heroine -- Morrigan Crow -- to the to the list. Thoroughly enjoyed it and immediately ordered the next in the series, "Wundersmith." Kudos to Jessica Townsend for her fabulous writting. And kudos to Gemma Whelan whose narration only enhances the already excellent story.

This installment of the Detective Daniel Hawthorne series continued to captivate me until the very end. It twisted and turned to the point that I didn't have a clue who had done it til the end. Every time a credible explanation was given I was on-board --- until the next credible explanation. Loved it. The reason for the downgrade in stars is the narrator. He is very good with the male voices, but his female voices were horrible. Not just bad -- horrible and hard to listen to.

Why are the ratings so high? I continue to be a huge Neal Stephenson fan, but this book is a mess -- and at over 30 hrs. I set the listening speed to 1.25x to cut down the time. Oh that it had ended before we were introduced to the re-imagined world of the brain scanned dead. At 15 hours in I am in the midst of an ever changing digital landscape, catching only glimpses of the real world thru Sophia's exploits and the other characters still living. I've given up caring. The scanned dead have no memories of their past, so we are made to experience all sorts of Adam and Eve revelations. Groan...

This is a disappointing Audible product. Not only does the story leave one totally unsatisfied, but the upcoming yet to be released "installments" are only available from Audible. It was a 14 hour ad for the next two books, and I am angry enough to return it. This does not affect my ratings for Tim Gerald Reynolds, whose narration kept me listening as long as I did. But, in my opinion, the story is a set-up to push the Audible exclusive products and a slap in the face to those of us that have been invested in this series from the beginning.

I laughed and enjoyed this entire production. I can't rate it five stars tho' because it is not a book -- it is a production -- a 5 hour radio program. Loved the actors whose voices are so familiar to me. Worth the credit.

As a preteen and teen, I devoured this series. Now on Social Security, I enjoyed the story, but it sure didn't have the impact of my memories. Would you believe that this was my first "steamy" novel? I can't. I am so jaded by the James Bond movies and their over-riding impressions on me. Now I'm eager to pick another Bond book to see if I'll leave all to my memories.
