Late Victorian London. When James Miller, the most respectable of Scottish businessmen, is pulled, dead, from the Thames, his daughter is drawn into an investigation which reveals a whole world of secrets and corruption. Alongside local detective Culley, Catriona’s search for her father’s killer leads all the way to the tragic truth behind the ghostly legend of The Darkwater Bride and the power of her deadly kiss. The Darkwater Bride combines the genres of the Victorian mystery thriller with the equally classic Victorian mode of the ghostly tale.

This was not my typical genre of choice, but I'm happy it's in my library ! I love the UK and the Victorian era especially; of which this story takes place. The acting was phenomenal, and translated to vocal narration by a top class bunch that pulled me deeper and deeper than I'd ever imagined. I highly recommend this book, it is definitely one of those books I'll be listening to again.

To give a quick synopsis, this book was unexpectedly beautiful. It would be a lie if I was to say I was not surprised; completely taken off guard. The horror of this book is intertwined with such beautiful prose, that it left these moments not full of fear, but of compassion and terror. This book unlike its predecessor was much more alluring, and easy to captivate me at any hour of the day or, night. I cannot recommend this 2nd installation enough, I would say after reading countless books over 42 years, this book will always be at my fingertips.

Here are the confessions of a vampire. Hypnotic, shocking, and chillingly erotic, this is a novel of mesmerizing beauty and astonishing force - a story of danger and flight, of love and loss, of suspense and resolution, and of the extraordinary power of the senses. It is a novel only Anne Rice could write. From the Paperback edition.

What a great listen ! Forget the movie, as it does not show the story as the book fully does. The main vampire shows his restraint of power while always remembering the passion of his former humanity. Constantly at odds with humanity and vampires Louie falls in the middle with a never ending compassion that other vampires lack.this audiobook is well worth adding to your library, you will not be disappointed.

Have you ever learned a new language ? I have many times. This is however my first time using the Pimsleur method. Overall I learned a lot ! This first 5 chapters have given me a basic understanding of pronunciation, directions, how to negate a sentence, and many more simple rules of speaking Italian. What I disliked was the speed at which you needed to answer a completely new phrase while your still absorbing what they just taught moments before. I found it difficult to keep up. That is not to say the lesson was poor, just the narrator doesn’t give you the time to say the answer in enough time, before he answers it for you. Overall I would recommend this course and book, but have your finger close to the pause button when they ask you to say a phrase.

This is a book I would normally pass on the shelf. A friend who happens to be a Psychologist recommendedI I read this; after a terrible diagnosis I received. Never and I mean NEVER has a book enveloped me, inspired me, or, said exactly what I needed to hear, and on a level compare my own troubles to. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has given up on living a meaningful life; better even know what a meaningful life can be. I would give this book 5 stars, it didn’t solve my problem, but gave me the tools to do so on my own.

I as an avid Fantasy/Sci-fi reader have read this trilogy, before we had the internet; it was time for a revisit as 20 years had passed. This second installment in the series was as good or, better listening on Audible. The series is captivating, not a dull moment to be found. The execution of the reader shows the prowess of both range voicing multiple characters with ease. I would not change anything about this book, and I recommend this series to any enthusiast of near any age. Happy listening !
