The survivors have come to settle in the mountains of Wyoming, fighting day in and day out to establish a home for themselves in a near-empty world. Things are good at first; scavenging is a workable, short-term solution that seems to be providing all they need. But they know that it’s only a matter of time before the food runs out. They need to scramble to find a sustainable solution before the clock stops, and for a little handful of people up in the mountains, the odds don’t seem very favorable.

I usually don't write reviews but I felt the need to write this one. I have hundreds of audio books in my library, many of them from the post-apocalyptic genre. So trust me when I say, skip this one! There are plenty of books out there worth listening to but unfortunately this is not one of them. Rarely do I want a book to end but this one could not end soon enough:-(

Hard Country is not my usual kind of book but I truly loved it. I was completely drawn in from chapter 1. I'm so glad George Guidall was chosen to narrate! Loved it!

Each day brings new challenges - how to fight the bitter cold, where to scavenge food for the table, and how to best fend off intruders and keep their community safe. As the cold, dark days of winter begin the slow transition to spring, the Tait family is faced with a challenge that dwarfs all others.

What disappointed you about Daunting Days of Winter?

EVERYTHING!

Has Daunting Days of Winter turned you off from other books in this genre?

No

How could the performance have been better?

Any other narrator would have made it better!

What character would you cut from Daunting Days of Winter?

All of them...

Any additional comments?

I purchased this book after listening to 77 Days in September, which wasn't too bad. Daunting Days however was absolutely horrible. Didn't even seem like it was written by the same author... the writing was just awful....ridiculous and disappointing. Wouldn't recommend wasting your time even if it's free.

Cassie Forrest isn't surprised to learn that the day she’s decided to get her life together is also the day the world ends. After all, she’s been on a self-imposed losing streak since her survivalist parents died: she’s stopped painting, broken off her engagement to Adrian and dated a real jerk. Rectifying her mistakes has to wait, however, because Cassie and her friends have just enough time to escape Brooklyn for her parents’ cabin before Bornavirus LX turns them into zombies, too.
