Still Life with Crows audiobook cover art

Nice use of music every so often

Overall
3 out of 5 stars

Reviewed: 01-07-05

I heard a lot of glowing reviews about this book so I picked it up. I did like the use of music during some scenes in this book which was interesting and added some flavor to it. Besides that I would say that the mystery is mostly not there. The characters are interesting but don't really go anywhere. I was hoping for some kind of super interesting ending but instead I found the ordinary.

Finding Work that Matters audiobook cover art

No concrete examples

I was unable to find work that matters using this book. It simply tried to persuade you to "do what you love so that money would follow." He tries to convice you not to be afraid of losing what you have already worked for. I see where he wants you to go but he doens't provide the bridge from where you are to where you want to be. He perhaps made me think about my situation more but thats about it. If you are looking to find work that matters you will still be looking after reading this book.

The Secrets of the Power of Intention audiobook cover art

Contradictions to an extreme

Overall
1 out of 5 stars

"Don't take prescription drugs he says." Then later "So I was at the store picking up a prescription for my son...". UG. On the good side he has some interesting stories about life which were thought provoking. Here and there I was able to pick up something that was interesting. But most of the book seemed like the author was someone that was unable to grasp that he even existed. He sounds amazed that he is even alive. "Just spread love and joy and everything is ok". Thats the type of book this is. "how would I solve the problems of the middle east? Well I would encircle the place with as many people as possible sending out loving thoughts to everyone. Now how could anyone be mad with such overflowing love?". Ok if you think that is a logical solution to a 3000 year old religious conflit then this is the book for you.

1984 audiobook cover art

Excellent Classic - Disturbing future

Overall
5 out of 5 stars

Reviewed: 01-07-05

This is one classic I avoided reading in High school only to find myself riveted when I finally went through it. Although this book was written many moons ago you can actually see the themes coming through in todays world. This is one story that actually disturbed me greatly as I see the effects today. Read this book and you will learn where the terms "Big Brother", "Thought crime" and "Thought police" come from and in what context they are meant. A must read.

When Genius Failed audiobook cover art

Annoying voice

Overall
2 out of 5 stars

Reviewed: 01-07-05

I think the book would have been easier to listen to if the author had a less annoying voice. Listen to the sample to judge for yourself. I had to put this book down and come back to it again and again to get through it. I am glad I now know what happend in the book but I feel that this one case where the abridged version would have been a better choice.

Not enough

It seemed like mostly examples. I didn't find many "crunchy bits" or have any "a HA!" moments. She states that you should tell it strait and say what you mean instead of pussyfooting around. Thats what the whole book is about. For me it was redundant and disapointing.

Economics in One Lesson audiobook cover art

The truth about Economics

Overall
5 out of 5 stars

Reviewed: 02-01-03

This book is excellent as it takes the myths that people have about economics and gives instruction on the falsehoods of those statements. Myths people have such as "War is good for the economy" etc. are expertly handled. This book was written some time ago and stands the test of time. These principles ring true years later. If you want to continue to believe that you can get something for nothing or that through higher taxes and more government spending you will have a greater society then don't buy this book. If you want to understand the truth of economics then look no further.
