I didn't set out to be a pirate. Life for me was about surviving the ugliness that people knew existed but didn't talk about. I lived in hell. Then I saw her. I knew I couldn't keep her, but for just a little while I had found heaven. Eight years later, I can't get her out of my head.

The story line and premise of the book could have been amazing but the story needed about another hour or two of detail and dialogue. It didn't seem.like a fully flushed out story. More of an outline to an epic love story before all the real emotion and dialogue is put in. Also the narrator didn't help because she sounded a bit flat herself.

I really liked the premise of the book and will read the other installments. I liked all the characters well enough but I couldn't get past the way the narrator portrayed the women or Hoyt. too exaggerated or something. I also didn't really connect with anyone. Cian was who I was most drawn too and they barely touched on his depths. it lacked the anticipation and suspense of other novels I've read even by Nora Roberts.

Astrid lives a normal, unremarkable life. She owns and operates a bookstore, has a small circle of friends, and avoids social interaction like the plague. She's alone most of the time, but that's how she likes it. It's routine, there are no unexpected surprises - or chances of being hurt. All of that changes, though, when a chance encounter with a mysterious man turns her world upside down. Suddenly, nothing is routine and unexpected surprises are the norm.

For the first time, James Malory and his Anderson in-laws agree on something: It's payback time for the culprit who kidnapped James and Georgina's beloved daughter, Jack, from her American debutante party and whisked her away to the Caribbean, no matter that she escaped unscathed. James figured out who masterminded the dastardly plot and is leading a fleet of ships to the West Indies to deliver some Malory-style retribution.

I enjoyed this reading. I was okay with it being a christian novel even tho i typically prefer my historical romance with just a taste of passion. the author does give u steamy kissing but if u want more go elsewhere. Also, as a Christian I didnt expect to be bothered by God talk however it is kinda heavy and central to the plot. I dont know how I felt about the main characters actually hearing God speak to them or the deceased father. otherwise i enjoyed the story and just didnt get wrapped up in it. The reason for the H and H not getting together sooner seemed kind of contrived.
