Lyra's story begins in the Haven Institute, a building tucked away on a private island off the coast of Florida that from a distance looks serene and even beautiful. But up close, the locked doors, military guards, and biohazard suits tell a different story. In truth Haven is a clandestine research facility where thousands of replicas, or human models, are born, raised, and observed. When a surprise attack is launched on Haven, two of its young experimental subjects - Lyra, or 24, and the boy known only as 72 - manage to escape.

I have a new favorite author. This series is amazing. I couldn’t put it down. So thought provoking and heart wrenching. Love, love, love it. My introduction to Lauren Oliver was the movie “before I fall”. My husband and I went to it and both really liked it. Every teenager should see it or read the book.

It starts a little slow but gets very good. I liked how the story unfolds by jumping back and forth from throughout his life. Revealing pieces of the puzzle. It shines light on good in people and also their flaws encouraging me to learn not to judge people as I can never know their full story or live in their shoes. A thought provoking story of how each life influences others in ways we never imagine.
