Each day we face a barrage of images and messages from society and the media telling us who, what, and how we should be. We are led to believe that if we could only look perfect and lead perfect lives, we'd no longer feel inadequate. So most of us perform, please, and perfect, all the while thinking, What if I can't keep all of these balls in the air? Why isn't everyone else working harder and living up to my expectations? What will people think if I fail or give up? When can I stop proving myself?

I read a LOT and I cannot begin to explain how valuable this book is to humanity. It’s not just self development, it’s about understanding what it is to be human and how to be a joyous, authentic one. Whether you are a manager or a parent or a business owner, a wife, husband, Singleton, explorer, teacher, you name it, I believe this book could give you more than any other single book I’ve ever read. If I were to die tomorrow and could give my daughter one book to teach her important things she will need to know, it would be this one! It is conversational, easy to listen to, yet mind blowing. Funny yet uncomfortable because it’s so true and the Truth is, it’s a discomfort we ALL share. There are so many layers to this book and the great thing is, it’s research based. It’s not someone’s egocentric opinion, it’s just the plain bare truth packaged in an easily digestible sandwich with clear instructions. This is GOLD!
Thank you Brene for this immeasurable gift!

Tiffany can't avoid being funny: it's just who she is. But The Last Black Unicorn is so much more than a side-splittingly hilarious collection of essays - it's a memoir of the struggles of one woman who came from nothing and nowhere. A woman who was able to achieve her dreams by reveling in her pain and awkwardness, showing the world who she really is, and inspiring others through the power of laughter.

...because I just wanted to give her a hug and now she’s gone. This book is gripping. Grippingly funny, grippingly sad and grippingly real. There’s no filtering; she just serves the raw truth of it to you without apology. And you know in your gut that you could make the same decisions she did, under the circumstances, but you would probably never tell...
A story of uncommon bravery and triumph against all odds. Go Tiffany, I love you!

Read it and weep with laughter and sadness!

What does it take to be secure in our sense of belonging and self-worth? We may hustle to attain this security through achievements, meeting expectations, or repeating affirmations to ourselves - but Dr. Brené Brown's research has shown there is ultimately one obstacle to our sense of worthiness. “Shame is the barrier,” she teaches, “and building shame resilience is how we overcome it.”

I listen to a lot of books but this one made me want to thank the author. The book is about a number of women on different sides of the color divide and the impact that racism and prejudice has on their lives. The characters are so rich and well described that I will miss them dearly. Although it is a book about a serious topic it is a most enjoyable read while remaining thought provoking. Anyone would enjoy reading this. Use your token !

Winter of the World picks up right where the first book left off, as its five interrelated families - American, German, Russian, English, Welsh - enter a time of enormous social, political, and economic turmoil, beginning with the rise of the Third Reich, through the Spanish Civil War and the great dramas of World War II, up to the explosions of the American and Soviet atomic bombs. As always with Ken Follett, the historical background is brilliantly researched and rendered, the action fast-moving, the characters rich in nuance and emotion.
