What made the experience of listening to Water, Carry Me the most enjoyable?

This story has a few unexpected twists and turns and yet feels very true to life, a story that a young person or even a not very young person might fall into to their regret. Very moving story.

Would you listen to My Dream of You again? Why?

I first read this novel in print and it has stayed with me for a long time. You almost feel as if a good friend were telling you her story. In particular, the story of how she chose not to enter a one sided relationship with a man can apply to many people.

If you could rename My Dream of You, what would you call it?

I love the title as it suggests a dreamlike quality which is different from real life.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I am a big fan of Anita Brookner and have read all of her books. This is one of my
favorite. She writes of the lonely, constrained lives of two sisters, both of whom have
ill-fated romances. No one describes loneliness better than Anita Brookner.
The narrator is excellent. This book is not for every taste, but it is an
involving and well told story.

What was most disappointing about Susan Isaacs’s story?

I have read many of her other books and almost always enjoy them. The characters in this book were universally unlikable and unsympathic. Even the sleuthing aspects of the story were disappointing. The narrator was not very good, but it may be the fault of the poor storyline. These were characters to whom I could not relate and I live in the city where this story takes place. Very disappointing book, not up to her usual standards.

What did you love best about Shelter Me?

The main character Janie has lost her young husband in a bicycle accident and she is angry and bitter. But you can't help but be pulled into her world and root for her. She is a devoted mom and is navigating a new world without her husband. There are some romantic missteps and working out issues with her family and friends. Stay with this story and you will be glad that you did. I hope that Juliette Fay writes some other books available on audible besides Shelter Me and Deep Down True. I have become a fan of her work.

Would you listen to Deep Down True again? Why?

I would. I read this book at the same time as I was listening to
Erik Larson's "In the Garden of Beasts" and it was a breath of fresh air.
The characters are all engaging and portrayed realistically. The story is neither
sad nor happy, but felt real. Tha narrator was terrific.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I liked most of the characters in the story.

What does Robynn Rodriguez bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She has a lovely voice with a certain joyous quality. I really enjoyed listening to her.

If you could sum up The Lovers in three words, what would they be?

Interesting premise, well-written, story meanders a bit with an unsatisfying ending.

Any additional comments?

I was looking forward to listening to this story based on the largely positive reviews that I had read. The story was quite well-written but it meandered a bit and we don't get to know the main character as well as we could. The ending was upbeat, but didn't fit well with the story. The book did best in describing the atmosphere of what Turkey is like and how it feels to be a woman on her own in this country.
