On Christmas Day in 1893, every man, woman and child in a remote mining town will disappear, belongings forsaken, meals left to freeze in vacant cabins, and not a single bone will be found - not even the gold that was rumored to have been the pride of this town. One hundred and thirteen years later, two backcountry guides are hired by a leading history professor and his journalist daughter to lead them into the abandoned mining town so they can learn what happened.

yes this book is disturbing, in a captivating way. that is to be expected by blake crouch in which his writing reminds me of Jack Kilborn pen name for J. A. Konrath. the detailed history in this book of the early 20th century is great, the author really did his home work. the story jumps back and forth from early 1900 hundreds to present time. in which crouch does a admirable job making the story network together. the narrator does a stupendous job making the correctors seem so heartfelt. i recommend this to anyone who is looking for a phenomenal story. HIGHLY RECOMAND.. warning not to listen with children around..this book is and stays mature

The time is now. The place is the Trident, a long-range research vessel hired by the reality TV show Sealife. Aboard is a cast of ambitious young scientists. With a director dying for drama, tiny Henders Island might be just what the show needs. Until the first scientist sets foot on Henders, and the ultimate test of survival begins.

great book, very detailed and laid out perfectly. the author does an excellent job in making this story believable. the history of evolution the author uses in this book is also a commodity that makes this book so admirable.this book does contain SOME horrifying and ghastly which if that's what u like great and if not i still highly recommended this book.

David Innes is a young man who has just inherited a large mining company. An eccentric inventor, Abner Perry, convinces Innes to underwrite a project to build an 'iron mole,' claiming it will make them both wealthy. The mechanical beast works well, actually too well. On the maiden voyage, instead of digging for a few minutes and returning, they plunge straight through the earth's crust into the 'inner world' of Pellucidar.

my first audio book, and loved every minute of it. i have a long commute every morning to work and them home also. i found myself taking the long way there and home to keep listening. i love the out of box ideas this author comes up with. even though i knew there no way possible it could be true i found myself believing in it as i listened. anyone who's listens to this must follow up with the sequel Pellucidar. it is a great ending to the whole story...
