I love the approach that the author took with this series. 3 siblings, 3 different accounts of how it all went down after SHTF... Do they ALL tie together at the end? Are there other perspectives which means more than 3 books in the series? I'm hooked and can't wait for the series to continue!

I'll start off by saying I enjoyed the series. I felt the writing and storylines were great and the narrator was incredible. Maybe I had different expectations based on the summary, but there was a ton of build up. I believe Afton describes it in the book as "blue balls". As a reader, I was feeling like "just kill him already". 4 books is a long of time having the same bad guy. The twists and turns kept me interested for the most part, but I felt like we could've moved on from that story line in book 1 maybe book 2 at the most, and then got to Afton seeking the scum of the Earth to satisfy her urges.

The United States has experienced its share of turmoil over the years. Although not particularly as war-torn or stricken with genocide and violent crime as other nations, over time, gun violence and terror attacks have become commonplace on American soil. Never before has the United States been subjected to widespread coordinated terrorist attacks, devastating enough to bring the entire nation to its knees. Until now.

The author did an amazing job with this novel and I was entertained from the beginning until very end. The two separate storylines are easy to follow and equally captivating especially with Kevin Pierce navigating the smoothe transition... the ONLY downside, is the sequel (which I'll be buying immediately upon release) won't be out for about 6 months. Get this book! You won't regret it!

Chris Pike did an amazing job, the details in character and storyline development are fantastic. The development of creatures caused by a reaction from the attack, adds another edge of creativity. I'll be honest and say that this novel didn't grab me as much as his previous series (which I'm a huge fan of), but I'm still interested to see where it goes from here.

Becket Royce did a great job in her performance, I think she did an excellent portrayal of the characters and really brought them to life.

The character and storyline development are very detailed and enjoyable to the reader/listener. The first half of the book is clear that the author really wanted the listener to be a part of the story. The second half or so, the story felt rushed. I felt the whole journey to CO should've doubled the length of the book with realistic encounters of a world of chaos. It could've been great, but unfortunately I was left disappointed and likely won't be purchasing the sequel.

It's common practice for modern apocalyptic fiction authors to start with a great story, build up the characters, then rush through to get the sequel or trilogy out in 6 months. This unfortunately can make a potentially amazing novel turn into average at best.

Kevin Pierce was an excellent choice as a narrator! I've enjoyed his work for a few years now and view him as "The Voice of the Apocalypse".

I'm a huge fan of post apocalyptic fiction, so I'm fascinated by Mr. Abrahams idea... multiple apocalyptic scenarios played out with the same characters. I began with this story (as he mentions, you can enjoy any of the series in any order) and am anxious to listen to the rest, now that I'm more acquainted with the cast.

That part was the only reason I didn't give this novel 5 stars, there were so many characters introduced in the first hour that it made it difficult to follow along and really feel like the listener is a part of the story. As the book went on a became more familiar, it just took longer than I would've preferred.

The writing and narration were excellent! I'll definitely be getting another in the series.
