While growing up, Paul-Edward loved, and feared, his father, but he loved the land unconditionally. Then, after a rash act of youthful rebellion, he leaves his family behind and vows to succeed on his own. However, for anyone black coming of age in 1880's Mississippi, this is no simple goal.

"The Land" is an awesome listen. I couldn't get enough and the characters were so believable. The language for that timeframe was so befitting. Sometimes it's kind of hard hearing the "n" word being used, but because of the time in which this book took place it didn't seem at all offensive. I think the author did an amazing job and the book was exceptional from top to bottom. This book made me laugh, want to cry, kick and scream and at times it made me want to stand up and cheer! I will definitely be keeping this one close at hand.

Marion and Shiva Stone are twin brothers born of a secret union between a beautiful Indian nun and a brash British surgeon at a mission hospital in Addis Ababa. Orphaned by their mother's death in childbirth and their father's disappearance, bound together by a preternatural connection and a shared fascination with medicine, the twins come of age as Ethiopia hovers on the brink of revolution. Yet it will be love, not politics - their passion for the same woman - that will tear them apart.

Why we think it’s a great listen: How do you one-up a book that’s already a global literary phenomenon? Hire Simon Vance to (flawlessly) interpret the loves, lives, and murders of Sweden’s cold and secret-filled world. A spellbinding amalgam of murder mystery, family saga, love story, and financial intrigue. It's about the disappearance 40 years ago of Harriet Vanger, a young scion of one of the wealthiest families in Sweden.

To be honest, I'm not sure whether or not I liked this one. What I did like is that it's different and the story line is not your typical. But there was so much going back and forth between characters and all that I often got confused and would have to play catch up in my mind or rewind again to figure out who was who and doing what to who. Perhaps the best word to describe it is "interesting." But I'm not quite sure if I would want to listen to it again; however, it wasn't awful.

The plus is the narrator, the narrator was excellent and my hat is off to the narrator! Kudos!

This is the audiobook that had me going back searching for more "urban" themed audiobooks! I love the characters and their hustle! Although the book has "graphic" language, it suited the situation and the type of environments the characters were coming from. I truly enjoyed listening to it and by the end, I wasn't disappointed and felt it was money well spent!

This audiobook had me not wanting to get out of my car once I got to my destination. Some of the characters were straight ruthless and all about self but it's the drama that keeps you coming back for more. Loved, loved, loved the fact that the women were plus-sized; however, carried themselves with confidence and believed themselves to be big, beautiful and sexy. It was a nice change to know that the main characters didn't have to be model thin to be sought after by gorgeous, sexy and successful men and were successful themselves. I would definitely listen to this again and again!

This was a pretty good listen! Based on one of the reviews I started not to purchase because I thought it wouldn't be as good as the first but I was pleasantly surprised as there were some pretty good twists and turns in there that I wasn't suspecting. Sometimes I wish the narrators voice was a bit deeper for portraying the male voices or that a male was reading for the male parts but overall I would say it was well worth the money.
