Once upon a time, there was a girl who dressed up and went to a big party at the palace. When she was there, she met a prince. They danced and fell in love. Damn good line. Too bad I don’t believe a word of it anymore. My name is Claire Montgomery, and I’m not a princess. I’m a fighter. I worked hard to earn my place on the emergency image repair team for one of the biggest public relations companies in the country. We’ve been called to the renowned Chicago headquarters of Stone Global Corporation, where it’s our job to clean up a heap of the Stone family’s filthiest laundry.

Come home to Hope Harbor - where hearts heal...and love blooms. Tracy Campbell never wanted to leave Hope Harbor, Oregon, or the idyllic three-generation cranberry farm where she grew up. But life - and love - altered her plans. Now she's home again - with a floundering farm to run...a tragic secret...and a wounded heart. Romance is not on her agenda. Nor is it on Michael Hunter's. The visitor from Chicago has daunting secrets and devastating regrets of his own.

I was worried that the series without the great Katherine Kellgren -- who died tragically young -- could not survive in audiobook form. Jasmine Blackborow, however, has done a remarkable job of echoing Katherine's style. Those were tough shoes to follow. I am so relieved because I absolutely adored this series when Kellgren narrated.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

In the previous Fatal books Marie Force kept a reasonable balance between the "love story" and the investigative adventure. This volume lost that balance with continuous naval gazing introspection and feelings of the characters -- both main H and h as well as supporting players. It was wordy and repetitive of everyone's misery and reaction to a minor character's demise. It was hard to listen to it after awhile. I am hesitant to listen to any more of this series which, until now, I had truly enjoyed.

Have you listened to any of Eva Kaminsky’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

She is excellen.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Not many.

Any additional comments?

See above.

What made the experience of listening to Falling into Bed with a Duke the most enjoyable?

Very enjoyable story.

What did you like best about this story?

Plot and characters.

Would you be willing to try another one of Helen Lloyd and Rich Cope ’s performances?

No. Ms. Lloyd is an effective narrator when she is reading the general text, but she can't change her voice to represent different characters. That is a fatal problem. I couldn't even determine who was speaking.

What would have made Girl's Guide to Witchcraft better?

Another reader. I had to abandon the story within the first 15 minutes because the narration was so bad.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Emma Galvin?

Almost anyone. Her style was practically monotonic and she paused after every second or third word regardless of natural phrasing. I'll NEVER listen to any book narrated by this individual again!
