I have waited a long time to finally get the real story of Xcor, leader of the Band of Bastards; convicted of treason against the Blind King and at the end of book 14, was captured and awaiting a brutal interrogation and a most heinous death at the hands of the Black Dagger Brotherhood. Xcor would never have given in if it weren’t for the promises he made to a sacred female, The Chosen Layla. She was never his, but she had saved his life and after the life he’d led he knew he’d never deserve someone like her.

Now that Layla has delivered her young twins she finds herself at loose ends and wants something for herself including the warrior she knows who is a good man Xcor. When Quinn discovers that Layla had been seeing Xcor behind his back - he went nuts and wanted to keep her babies from her. Devastated by the chasm she had caused between the young’s biological father and the warrior she loved Layla had to summon the courage to stand up to the only family she has for the only man she has ever loved. Layla knew Xcor’s heritage and was torn between keeping the secret or revealing that which might divide their world further.

**** Once again, a stellar book to add to Ms. Wards fabulous Black Dagger Brotherhood series. The more answers that are revealed in these books, the more questions and subplots emerge keeping this series alive and well. Enter a new deity which seems very evil and new characters begin to come to the forefront where one cannot wait for the next book to be written. Just as new folks begin to take on life, characters we thought we knew seem to be taking on new persona’s such as our resident fallen ‘angel’ - now what is that all about?

So many directions Ms. Ward can go in with the revelations found in THE CHOSEN - I personally cannot wait to see what comes next! And Ms. Ward - Please, Please - help out Assail!

In CARNAL INNOCENCE author Nora Roberts has created a mesmerizing tale of madness, murder, and love in a small southern town of the bayou. Put into play is Caroline Waverly, a beautiful world renowned concert violinist who is still fragile from both a public breakup and private breakdown after witnessing her lover with another. Caroline, has left the concert circuit escaping to her late grandmother’s home in Innocence, Mississippi. However instead of the peace and tranquility she expected, she found a town reeling from two vicious and heinous murders. And, if that weren’t enough Caroline discovers a third victim on her property.

Enter Caroline’s devastatingly handsome bad-boy neighbor - Tucker Longstreet. Big, beautiful with a devilish grin and the sexiest southern drawl ever. But for some reason, Tucker makes Caroline feel safe even though his reputation for breaking hearts has put him at the top of the suspect list, seeing as how he was connected to each of the murdered women.

*** Lordy, lordy, but I have listened to Tom Stechschulte before and I have to say that NO ONE does sexy Southern drawls like Mr. Stechschulte! He is a master of making a written hero pop to life as one very SEXY heart throb - just by hearing that rich southern interpretation. Wow! And let me also say that the sensuality both actual and implied was steaming all the way through to the very end!

Now mix that with exquisite storytelling by Nora Roberts and you have a perfect combination that will force you to keep listening way into the middle of the night and then turning it back on as soon as you wake up! Be it children, heroes or heroines, pets, even nasty villains - Ms. Roberts writes the books that grab you and simply won’t let you go. Loved every minute of this audiobook, the outstanding performance of Mr. Stechschulte and the entire cast of characters who made this ‘very hard to put down’ and immensely satisfying book!

THE BEAST by J.R. Ward is the fourteenth installment in Ward’s BLACK DAGGER BROTHERHOOD paranormal series. This series focuses on an incredible group of vampire warriors, their King and their enemies called the Lessening society. THE BEAST is a continuing story of Rhage, and his shellan Mary Luce and tells more of Rhage’s alter ego who breaks out more in this story than ever before in any of the other installments.

Followers of this series have seen that Mary and Rhage’s relationship has been strained as of late and they seem to have have drifted from the open communication they once had. The rest of the Black Dagger Brotherhood family continues to grow settling in and having young. Rhage finds himself facing a future missing ‘something’ and not knowing what it could be. Both he and Mary are still much in love but even Mary consoling an orphaned child at the woman’s shelter known as ‘Safe Place’ is feeling the same sense of incompleteness.

*** While a large portion of THE BEAST focuses on Rhage and Mary Ms. Ward includes so many other subplots to her stories including the ongoing story of The Chosen known as Layla who is carrying twin babies in a very high risk pregnancy. Layla has been on bed rest for the longest time in order to save her young from coming too soon but somehow she senses that the man she has fallen in love with (a mortal enemy of the Brotherhood) is somewhere near her. Layla’s anxiety is not good for her pregnancy but who one falls in love with can never be determined logically for the heart always has the last say.

Another great storyline that is a continuation from previous tomes is that of Assail, a cocaine-addicted vampire who is lost after he let the one woman (a human) he truly loves slip away. Assail has to come to terms with both of his addictions and work to rid himself of the one that is ultimately killing him and reach out to his soulmate before its too late.

In her estimable style, Ms. Ward keeps you in suspense, emotionally invested and wanting more and more. She has created a family in which this reader feels a part of and hopes never ends…

After two broken betrothals Miss Merry Pelford, an American Heiress has come abroad with her aunt and uncle as a last chance to marry Merry off to an English gentleman. Lord Cedric Allardyce the younger brother of a duke has quickly zeroed in on Merry and after a short -one month - courtship promptly proposed at a ball then disappeared to the card room. Merry needed air and pulled herself out to a balcony to reassess what had just happened - she was now betrothed.

Before too long a gentleman came bursting out to the balcony, clearly upset and hadn’t noticed Merry standing alone in the shadows. Naturally, Merry being American and not your normal gently bred unassuming London debutante, tapped him on the shoulder to discover if there were anything she might do to help. Aghast that a woman would just simply approach him the Duke of Trent was anything but friendly, but alas Merry was not impeded by his brusque mood. After many minutes of discussion with this unusually intelligent and attractive woman, Trent who never smiled had quite enjoyed their discussion and certain he must be introduced officially to her. The introduction was not what he expected - Merry Pelford was betrothed to his twin brother!

In a couple of words…Absolutely delightful! I loved the whole premise of twins - one the good one and the other somewhat of a sleaze. Not identical in looks and definitely not in character, but ‘oh spit’ neither were a match for the intrepid American Heiress Merry Pelford. After meeting Trent Merry had begun to think that she just might be a shallow person, especially now that after meeting her betrothed future brother-in-law, she was having second thoughts about jumping too quick into another betrothal which she was beginning to realize was another mistake.

But what could she do - go for three broken betrothals? My gosh she wouldn’t have a reputation left or should she go through with it and be miserable married to one and lusting for the other. My oh my, be careful what one wishes for .

Lots of fun between the pages, the sheets, and a real surprise wedding make this a terrific read which I believe is a true winner. The narration by Kate Reading was lovely and well performed. I’m only sorry it took me so long to pick this up to listen to.

Knowing how much I love suspense and deep covert type books, I was advised to try Vince Flynn’s Mitch Rapp series. So naturally I went and bought the very first book to find out who this guy was and I suppose I wasn’t really surprised when I discovered just how wonderful it was to discover a new to me author and a series I fully intend to follow! I missed my calling - in that had I been introduced at an early age to covert ops and such I would have signed right up! Yet in spite of my day dreams I live vicariously through the written page of masters of the genre, like Mr. Vince Flynn.

Mitch Rapp initially was a top athlete whose thoughts of being any type of super agent was the furthest thing from his mind before tragedy struck. Decades of partisan politics had left the country in a vulnerable position but thankfully that was about to change with the help of Cold War and CIA operations director Thomas Stansfield who knows we must prepared for the rise of Islamic terroism most knew was coming.

Mitch Rapp had lost the love of his life on the Pan Am Lockerbie terrorist attack. Now he was out for revenge, and a chance with little more than six month of intense training has prepared him to go after the arms dealers who are at the beginning of the chain of madmen which Mitch is decidedly ready to eradicate.

Absolute, suspense, and high octane writing kept me on the edge of the seat through out this incredible audio version of AMERICAN ASSASSIN. George Guidall’s performance was spot on thrusting the listener right into the middle of the action. Personally, I am grateful to those who pointed me in Vince Flynn’s direction. This is a series I can’t wait to sink my teeth into!

Nora Roberts does it again with this brilliant piece of work - THE OBSESSION ! What a story, plotting and absolutely fabulous characters!

From the moment Naomi Bowes followed her father into the wood, and seeming him enter a root cellar in the woods Naomi knew she had to see what he was hiding in there thinking that it just might be the bicycle she had wished for her birthday coming in two days. What she found was a naked young girl who had been chained to the wall on a bed of rags. Freeing the girl Naomi half dragged her out of prison and walked through the forest before finding a neighbor who drove them to the police station where she revealed her father’s infamous crimes.

Years later Naomi is a successful photographer living under her new name of Naomi Carson who has come a long way from the hills of West Virginia. On the other side of the states, Naomi has found solitude in the old house on a hill in Washington state. She wants to live in solitude but the friendly folks in Sunrise Cove have been forcing her to open up and become part of the tight knit community - especially the very determined auto mechanic Xander Keaton.

Unfortunately, just as she is feeling comfortable within the community, bad things are happening to some of the young women in the area - bad things Naomi’s seen before. All of a sudden Naomi’s past seems to be catching up to her - with horrific nightmares.

Wow - in a word - wow! Once again Ms. Roberts has created a storyline that has all the grit and suspense that I really love. I do confess, I did have a niggling feeling as to the despicable madman who had come back into Naomi’s life to terrorize her again. But even though I did figure out who the villain was, the rest of the story was simply marvelous with characters you have to love and a wonderful dog whom I fell in love with. Final word - absolutely brilliant writing and an expert narration by Shannon McManus!

Having followed the Black Dagger Brotherhood series from the very beginning, it seemed only natural for me to start with the spin-off series Black Dagger Legacy. Paradise, blooded daughter of the king’s first advisor has already been mentioned in earlier books when she had assumed the position of receptionist where the king would come to hear the issues that surrounded the vampires under his protection here in his realm. Paradise was so ready to break free of the restraints binding her as an aristocratic female she was thrilled when the next training center came around they were letting females join the program. Paradise had been training on her own in the gym thinking she would be able to keep up with others. On the very first day of selection Paradise was faced with the unfathomably difficult tests of strength and survival facing them before they were even selected for the even tougher training program. And all this before she fell in love with a fellow classmate - Craeg - a common civilian who would be nothing her aristocratic father would want for his daughter.

*** As usual the trainers in this series are all members of the Brotherhood with Butch O’Neal, aka at the Dhestroyer in charge. Not only is he having issues with some of the cockier recruits, he is having personal issues in his own life.

Naturally, acts of violence and betrayals are woven into the training where some of the recruits who had lost entire families from the past violence between the Brothers and the Others had signed up not only for training but for vengeance. The action is non-stop except for the simmering attraction between Paradise and Craeg. Of course there are plenty of other sub-plots that Ward weaves into the main theme of BLOOD KISS, with one of them being the search for the rogue vampire who was beating on and killing innocent vampire civilian females.

Bottom line: Intense, fast-paced, sensual, and exciting adventures are all combined to make this new spin-off series by Ms Ward another prime example of an excellent vampiric paranormal read.

This is not my first nor will it be my last book by Karen Rose who, for me, epitomizes fabulous writing, terrific suspense and thrilling action - guaranteed! In other words, I have not read a Karen Rose novel yet that I wasn’t absolutely crazy about!

Psychologist Faith Corcoran has been stalked for years, survived a brutal knife attack and has escaped several attempts on her life. Unfortunately, some of the people she was with ended up being the victims of failed attempts to kill her. She is now desperate enough to change her identity and run to the one place that has been her nightmare far longer. Both a boon and bane she has inherited her grandmother’s house in Cincinnati where she hopes to find a new start, but even here far away from her stalker in Florida, someone wants her dead!

On her way home, Faith swerved to avoid hitting a young woman in the road causing her to careen down a long embankment. Climbing up and out of her car she found a young woman half dead lying in the road completely naked.

The young woman just happened to be a kidnap victim the FBI had been looking for and Special Agent Deacon Novak had been called in to investigate. When his investigation led him to question Faith he couldn’t help but be attracted to the very brave and resourceful woman he found impossible to ignore.

Could not help but be enthralled with this book right from the start. The plot and the vivid descriptions of a madman serial killer had me completely ensnared right from the beginning and Ms. Huber’s narration was absolutely the best. Her voice overs from male to female were remarkable and this was one book I had to listen to completely - night and day! At over 28 hours of playing time, I have to say it flew by.

So much detail and so many red-herrings tossed out it took quite a while before I figured out who the villain/psychopath was! Absolutely brilliant writing and extremely well researched. Truly, with this being the first book of Ms. Rose’s Cincinnati series you can be sure I will be following the rest of the series as well and I suggest others get in on the suspense as well.

Cayenne - another experiment of the madman Dr. Peter Whitney. Only the very beautiful Cayenne was considered a failure and scheduled for extermination - however, she had already been matched by pheromones to Trap and he wasn’t about to lose her now that he’d just found her.

As usual, Tom Stechschulte did a most admirable job of narrating this audio book, but and this is a big BUT - what has happened to the excitement and adventure I found so remarkable in this series. I wondered many times - what am I reading? Where as I have loved this series from the get-go and the adventures and action that encompasses all the other books in this series. Who is now writing this? Has Ms. Feehan foregone the adventure and creativeness of her characters for erotica and bondage?

I am really surprised I hung in there till the end, albeit I did fast-forward quite a bit through the eroticism and bondage type sex that took up a good 90% of this book. If it weren’t for a couple of battles (which were far too short) and wanting to discover what happened to Trap’s two evil uncles I would have tossed this away. Even the meeting arranged with an old foe at the White House turned into a total letdown whereas I would have thought there would have been some kind of an altercation.

Bottom Line: I can only wish that should Ms. Feehan, if she continues the Ghostwalker series, revert back to the excitement of telling a story with adventure and brilliant characterizations, rather than a very long episode ad nauseam of bondage and BDSM. Trap could have been a wonderful lead - so very brilliant, handsome, etc - but so very controlling, abusive and such a complete bastard he rather turned me off.

As most know who have been reading my book reviews over the years, Lisa Kleypas has always been a favorite author of mine, and I have to say with SOMEWHERE I’LL FIND YOU, it has eclipsed all my other top twenty favorites and lands pretty near to the top! Glamorous leading lady, Julia Wentworth is at the top of her game. The most celebrated actress in all of London and could have anything she desires. But the beautiful, talented lady is plagued with a shocking secret - a mysterious husband whom she does not know, has never met, and cannot possibly love.

For many years, Damon Savage has been searching for the stranger his parents wed him to without his consent.   Damon wants nothing more than to free himself from the strangling bonds of matrimony so that he could get on with his life and pursue a  real woman - not a shadow bride he’d never met.    As it turned out, Damon finally did meet a woman whom he’d love to take as his mistress, only to finally discover that “she”  was his “missing bride”.  However, even though Julia was legally his by law, he would now have to woo her, win her trust, and battle rivals for her love and independent heart.

Not only does Ms. Kleypas write intelligent dialogs that let your mind imagine it is watching a movie, but she has one of the top narrators - Rosalyn Landor - performing brilliantly to bring all the players to life with her tried and true rendering of the many voices in the play. The combination of Ms. Kleypas creation and Ms. Landor’s performance made listening to the audio of SOMEWHERE I’LL FIND YOU even more special. It just doesn’t get any better than this.

The sensuality of the wooing of Julia by Damon was highly emotional, sweet and totally divine. The chosen words of love by author Kleypas was as exquisite as always and left this reviewer with that total ahhhhhhhh…. feeling as the narrator uttered the last word. As always a totally marvelous book.
