Stephen R. Covey's book, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, has been a top seller for the simple reason that it ignores trends and pop psychology for proven principles of fairness, integrity, honesty, and human dignity. Celebrating its 15th year of helping people solve personal and professional problems, this special anniversary edition includes a new foreword and afterword written by Covey that explore whether the 7 Habits are still relevant and answer some of the most common questions he has received over the past 15 years.

I’ve read/listened to a handful of self-help books and none have impacted me the way this one did. So much so, that I listened to just about every Covey book that followed this one (unfortunately, they all turned out to be pretty disappointing). I fully intend to purchase the actual book in addition to the audio version so I can highlight, study, and put it into practice. I’ve talked about and recommended it to everyone I know since listening, and certainly suggest you give it a chance as well.

Are you tired of feeling f*cked up? If you are, Gary John Bishop has the answer. In this straightforward handbook, he gives you the tools and advice you need to demolish the slag weighing you down and become the truly unf*cked version of yourself. "Wake up to the miracle you are," he directs. "Here's what you've forgotten: You're a f*cking miracle of being." It isn't other people that are standing in your way; it isn't even your circumstances that are blocking your ability to thrive. It's yourself and the negative self-talk you keep telling yourself.

Up until chapter six I was pretty disappointed in this book and found it hard to actively listen to (I’d often zone out and my mind would wander). I appreciate its turn from positive thinking and focus on action - it had moments that really spoke to me. Overall, it’s not a “must-read” as plenty of it is useless rambling, but it’s good for a couple of pointers and reminders if you need a little extra motivation. Would’ve sufficed as a one-time TED talk if he edited it down to the highlights.
