Dish up the red meat, eggs, and whole milk! In this well-researched and captivating narrative, veteran food writer Nina Teicholz proves how everything we've been told about fat is wrong. For decades, Americans have cut back on red meat and dairy products full of "bad" saturated fats. We obediently complied with nutritional guidelines to eat "heart healthy" fats found in olive oil, fish, and nuts, and followed a Mediterranean diet heavy on fruits, vegetables, and grains. Yet the nation's health has declined. What is going on?

A definite must read for anyone interested in nutritional health and also a case study in how science can be wrongly influenced by pride, faulty data, preconceptions, personal bias, consensus and even corrupted by politics and Big Food. Not only is the government food pyramid, which emphasizes a low fat high carbohydrate diet, wrong but it has actually hurt the consumers in the three areas it was supposed to help (i.e., obesity, diabetes and heart disease). It also possibly led to increases in cancer. Prepare to have everything you know about nutrition turned in its head.

In the fall of 2009, Taliban insurgents ambushed a patrol of Afghan soldiers and Marine advisors in a mountain village called Ganjigal. Firing from entrenched positions, the enemy was positioned to wipe out 100 men who were pinned down and were repeatedly refused artillery support. Ordered to remain behind with the vehicles, 21 year-old Marine corporal Dakota Meyer disobeyed orders and attacked to rescue his comrades.

Winter is definitely coming in this truly magical read. As is typical of book adaptations, it's even better than the film/series, but not by much, which is really a testament to just how well produced the HBO series is.

Well read as well. The narrator gives a district voice to nearly every character which is in itself quite remarkable.

It's often said the book is better than the movie. In this case I can say the movie is exactly what you get from the book, and that is an emotionally heartbreaking coming of age tale of adolescents from opposite sides of town trying to make their way through this rough and tumble journey we call life.

Stay Golden Ponyboy!
