I am a huge fan of Karin Slaughter's books, particularly with Kathleen Early as narrator. This is without a doubt my favorite stand-alone novel of Slaughter's. The characters are so intensely layered, and flawed, you love them despite their mistakes. There is a mystery, which I had definitely not figured out at all, but the mystery somewhat takes a backseat to the beautiful tale of a family that endures unspeakable tragedy and heartbreak. I loved watching the story unfold, and listening to Kathleen Early do the voices, I just could not stop listening. This audiobook is amazing and I wish they could all be like this.

I rarely write reviews for audio books, but this book inspired so much disgust that I want to fight all the people on here giving it rave reviews who inspired me to try it. I hate myself for finishing it to the end, because now I just want to fight air over how horrifyingly and in your face mysogynist this book is. I like dark stories, but the TONE of this "the female character is ALL TO BLAME" is just gross. I can't even think it's the translation to blame, no, the GIRL did this to the boy, forget that they were HER parents too, and she deserved their protection too. This book with its "boys/men must be saved from girls/women" theme can take a flying leap off an intersection overpass.

I don't typically write reviews for the audiobooks I listen to, but this was so superbly done. The book itself is really well crafted. It touches on really tough subject matter without going too far and being gratuitously graphic. I really appreciated that, and it added to the gut-wrenching elements of the story. The narrator for this one is perfect. She does the voices so well, and I could not stop listening.

I have listened to quite a few audiobooks over the past two years. After reading some reviews on YOU, I decided to give this a try. I could not stop listening. Santino Fontana is simply the best narrator of any book I have listened to, and I ended up LOVING this story. Between Caroline Kepnes and Santino Fontana, they have created a genius piece of entertainment. I have recommended this to two friends so far who have also become fans, and I am going to get my husband to listen to it.
It is NOT for everyone... This is a villain-POV story. But it's thoroughly engaging, entertaining, and at times laugh out loud funny.
