In the midst of folding laundry, coordinating carpool schedules, and breaking up fights, many parents get lost. Feeling pressure to do everything "right" and raise up "good" children, it's easy to lose sight of our ultimate purpose as parents in the quest for practical tips and guaranteed formulas.

This compelling classic of a boy's coming of age during the Civil War is based on stories the author's grandfather told her about his own life.

Moving story about a family ripped apart by the Civil War. Grateful for the author's thoughtful treatment of both sides in such a painful time in our history. (I need an epilogue on Bill!)

A charming story about the everyday life of six children living on the three neighboring farms that everybody calls "noisy village" because of its "high spirits".

My 3 boys (ages 4, 6 & 8) loved, loved, loved this - and so did I. So much so that we found the other Noisy Village book ('Happy Times in Noisy Village') at the library & read it cover to cover. This book describes a wonderful, simple time of children growing up in a Swedish village as neighbors. My kids hooted & hollered at the stories - and I developed a deeper craving to live in a place where the kids could have terrific adventures out in nature just like the characters in the book. I'm just very sad there aren't more Noisy Village books out there - how is that possible when there are endless ninja warrior books & humorless tales of bratty kids hating their siblings??
