Vermont, 1950. There's a place for the girls whom no one wants - the troublemakers, the illegitimate, the too smart for their own good. It's called Idlewild Hall. And in the small town where it's located, there are rumors that the boarding school is haunted. Four roommates bond over their whispered fears, their budding friendship blossoming - until one of them mysteriously disappears.... Vermont, 2014. As much as she's tried, journalist Fiona Sheridan cannot stop revisiting the events surrounding her older sister's death.

It began on New Year's Eve. The sickness came on suddenly, and spread quickly. The fear spread even faster. Within weeks, everything people counted on began to fail them. The electrical grid sputtered; law and government collapsed - and more than half of the world's population was decimated. Where there had been order, there was now chaos. And as the power of science and technology receded, magic rose up in its place. Some of it is good, like the witchcraft worked by Lana Bingham, practicing in the loft apartment she shares with her lover, Max.

I only bother to write a review when either the book is extremely good or as extremely bad as this one was. I am a fan of Lucas Davenport but this last one is seriously bad. I didn't care about the plot " another polital mess" or the villains and to make matters worse Lucas Davenport an intelligence detective who is supposed to be 3 steps ahead couldn't get past what was infront of him. I mean seriously I was screaming out in agonizing fury every time he miss a clue or didn't ask the right questions. I'm surprised nobody told Mr Sandford this was a bad one from the start. :( oh well, I guess the next one will be better, Right Mr Sandford ????
