Claire is a 20-something, single mom who grudgingly helps her best friend sell sex toys while she attempts to make enough money to start her own business to give her foul-mouthed, but extremely loveable (when he's asleep) toddler a better life. When Carter, the one-night-stand from her past that changed her life forever, shows up in her hometown bar without any recollection of her besides her unique chocolate scent, Claire will make it a point that he remembers her this time. With Carter's undisguised shock at suddenly finding out he has a four-year-old son and Claire's panic that her stretch marks and slim-to-none bedroom experience will send the man of her dreams heading for the hills, the pair will do whatever they can to get their happily ever after.

This was painful and disappointing, it appears to have been written by a 13-year-old boy and edited by his mother. I so thoroughly enjoyed Tara Sivec's other books that I expected all of the "So Funny" reviews to be correct. Friends of the author or narrator must have written those reviews. I can only imagine that the lack of bad reviews is due to the fact that people returned this book immediately!

The narration would have been fine if any effort had been made to differentiate from the male and female character. I found myself going back 30 seconds several times to understand why a Claire would now be talking about her penis, only to find out that the chapter changed to Carter.

On the off chance you don’t see this from the other reviews, the overuse of the word vagina and the often childish euphemisms for each and every sexual act and all genitalia are mildly amusing at first and rapidly become irritating.

Upon closer inspection, Mattie and detective Steve Hurley are convinced Jack was murdered to steal his winnings, giving the phrase blackjack a whole new meaning....

Not recommending this one, it sounds like the writer has decided she hates her main character now. I'm so disappointed... First she makes her look more like an idiot than ever before, then she has her turn into a gambling addict and a reckless whiner who dumps her career without even talking to the man for whom she is quitting a job she loves? WTF? This wasn't fun, it was just sad and depressing. I'm hard pressed to read the next one but everyone has an off day (or book), right? We shall see...

When Deputy Coroner Mattie Winston and her boss/best friend, Izzy, are called to the home of waitress and part-time model Shannon Tolliver, they find the ghoulish Halloween decorations a bit too authentic. Among the fake blood and skeletons is the corpse of Shannon herself. Since the whole town knows Shannon recently had a very public spat with her estranged husband, Erik, he's suspect number one. But Mattie happens to know Erik truly loved his wife, and is simply incapable of the brutal act - even if he owns the exact same caliber handgun as the murder weapon.…

If you could sum up Little Shop of Homicide in three words, what would they be?

READ FOR FUN!!! Had to write this because the leading review was total sour grapes! If I hadn't listened to the sample I probably would have passed on this perfectly delightful light summer reading mystery. It flows nicely and keeps you interested in the characters, her writing is good, not overly sappy or melodramatic (something often found in lighter reads). This book just tickled me pink, I bought the second one before I even found out whodunit!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Jake Del Vecchio is well written, not the perfect 'knight in shining armor' but a total good guy with his own flaws - very well written and developed.

When Mattie Winston catches her husband Dr. David Winston receiving some very special loving care from R.N. Karen Owenby, she quits her job and moves out. Mattie's best friend Izzy offers her a place to stay and suggests she'd be a natural as deputy coroner. Now, instead of taking patients' pulses, Mattie's weighing their hearts and livers. But Mattie's first homicide call turns out to be for none other than Nurse Karen, and even though she saw her ex in a heated argument with the newly deceased the night before, she refuses to believe David could be a killer.

What did you like best about this story?

This is a totally amusing fun read. It is not intense but totally keeps your interest. Don't be discouraged by the cranky reviewers. I can see how some would find the nearly endless list slang terms for genitalia as off-putting but I just found it comical. It is such a small thing but keeps you grinning. Great story, just enough intrigue to be a perfect summer read.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend this as a lighter read, not terribly intricate but definitely keeps you guessing. The mystery is as intriguing as the witchy part is fun.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Kept me intrigued but not a nail-biter, like I said enjoyable for a summer read!

Have you listened to any of Coleen Marlo’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, I don't think I have although her voices are great and I will look for her in the future.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, I kept it on most of the day to hear it all!
