The DFZ, the metropolis formerly known as Detroit, is the world’s most magical city with a population of nine million and zero public safety laws. That’s a lot of mages, cybernetically enhanced chrome heads, and mythical beasties who die, get into debt, and otherwise fail to pay their rent. When they can’t pay their bills, their stuff gets sold to the highest bidder. That’s when they call me. I’m a Cleaner: a freelance mage employed by the DFZ to sort through the mountains of magical junk people leave behind. It’s not a pretty job, or a safe one....

When I first landed a bartending job at the local guild, I didn't know a thing about magic. These days, I'm practically an expert on the different magical classes, but there's one nobody ever talks about: Demonica. Turns out they have a good reason for that. My guild is strictly hellion-free, because who wants to risk life and limb to control the biggest bullies on the mythic playground? Well, some people do, and now, a demon has been loosed in the city.

I am very much enjoying this series, even with the occasional"girly bits" ..... not trying to sound too Macho.... but I think the story would be carried off quite well even without the emotional flutters. without those I would rank it on par With The Iron Druid series.

Broke, almost homeless, and recently fired. Those are my official reasons for answering a wanted ad for a skeevy-looking bartender gig. It went downhill the moment they asked me to do a trial shift instead of an interview - to see if I'd mesh with their "special" clientele. I think that part went great. Their customers were complete dickheads, and I was an asshole right back. That's the definition of fitting in, right? I expected to get thrown out on my ass. Instead, they...offered me the job? It turns out this place isn't a bar. It's a guild.

Success beyond my wildest dreams? Too bad I wasn't able to fully enjoy it. No time to sit back and watch the fame roll in when you're being hunted by superpowereds and a private military force. Still, everything was going according to plan. Grace, Veronique, and I were headed south. Our target? The secret government facilities scattered across the country. The second installment of Mutants in the Making was nearing completion, ready to be published any day now. Things were tense, but all was well. I wish they would have stayed that way....

I'm a fan all superheroes in literature. I understand the authors need to make it a harem book, as well as gaming stats book, since that's what all the publishers are desperate to get ahold of right now.
I believe the writeing would stand by it self, even without the Harem soft porn.
In fact the Harem spots feel forced, like someone watched some really bad porn.
but sometimes you have to take the bad with the good to get a story.
Count me in for book 3.... and I hope some realistic idea of where all these power sets seem to be coming from.

I can truly say that this book locked me in with all the various interesting alien life-forms that inhabited the world. they were just strange enough to be unique, that is you don't hear about them and immediately relate them two an animal that you know of.
I found it very hard to put down, and would go to Great Lengths to continue reading on it so I could get to the next part.

the ending did leave me satisfied with the twist. I will definitely be looking up other works by this author. well worth the credit

I was a just normal guy until the night the cherry blossoms bloomed, the night that Grace appeared on my doorstep. A failed sci-fi writer, a gamer, but a normal guy nonetheless. Grace was everything I was not - a psychic shifter, beautiful beyond my wildest imagination, a government conspiracy waiting to be unraveled. And that was before the second superpowered woman showed up to kill us both.

so, if he had decided to do more anticipation of sex and not graphical descriptions of sex, I think it would have still went over quite well. extremely disappointed at the description of how the supers were being created...
and at several points it was mentioned his picture within it and even that he would be pissed off after he finally found out, but the author decided to leave that part entirely out so we have to wait for another book just to find out??? extremely abrupt ending I'm thinking that the writer turned out a larger novel, and then decided to break it apart just to try to get us to get another one.
still on the fence as to whether I will even bother to get the next one, now that I know the writer is purposefully doing this, that is not a cliffhanger oh, it is nothing like a cliffhanger oh, it's just poor writing.
