You know her voice. Now hear her story.

Audible has teamed up with Rolling Stone to produce an uncompromisingly honest Audible Original that honors the life and legacy of the incomparable Aretha Franklin. Aretha’s universal appeal was evident from the release of her first album at age 14 through her nearly 50 Top 40 hits. Yet this intimate biography reminds us that Aretha knew pain as much as she knew glory. It was the blues, residing deep within her soul, that gave way to a voice able to lift millions with a profound sense of freedom, self-worth, and undeniable talent to rise above sorrow.

I have always loved Aretha even as a young teenager, anytime a song she sang came on the radio I knew it was her and that's saying a lot for me as I am not good at "name that singer/band". I didn't know however that she struggled with so many demons an her career. I always saw her climbing to the top and at the same time being grounded. It really goes to show you we don't know what truly goes on in the personal lives of singers/actors etc. This story was very well written, of course we always like it better when the writer narrates however I understand why she couldn't in this instance and the narrator did a good job! Ip ray Aretha is finally at peace in her song heaven in the sky!

In the late 1960s, riding the crest of the counterculture movement, Cea's family left a comfortable existence in California to live off the land in the Canadian wilderness. But unlike most commune dwellers of the time, the Persons weren't trying to build a new society - they wanted to escape civilization altogether. Led by Cea's grandfather Dick, they lived a pot-smoking, free-loving, clothing-optional life under a canvas tipi without running water, electricity, or heat for the bitter winters.

Her parents and her grandparetns should have been locked up. It makes me crazy to see things like this happen to kids. Would write more but it would be just more ranting about what she went thru. It was a little strange hearing an adult voice during her childhood years.

I was not meant to survive the trials cast my way. Yet, here I stand. The world has deteriorated in the years I was banished. The Elemental families are rife with deception, violence, and madness more than ever before. A voice I know all too well calls me to do her bidding. A voice I no longer wish to hear. I am finally starting to understand all of the different elements and how they work it is a very intriging storyline! I bought all of the series up to the 6th one "ASH" I really tried to listen to it because I bought it by mistake not realizing it was a completely different story and narrator but it was just too confusing trying to keep up with Ash's version and the series itself so I returned it and moved to this 7th series. Not saying it was bad it's just too much for my Lyme brain to handle!

I love this series however am struggling with the names, as some of them have a name, but are called something else and then the elementals, there are all different kinds which is also confusing to me, I wish there was some kind of dictionary type thing like you do in a book to look them up and pictures would be cool too.

I am on Audible due to health issues and have never listened to books like this but wanted something different other than other peoples bios, so maybe they are a bit out of my league imagination wise.

I did do well with the Venom and Vanilla series, but this elemental stuff is kind of making me crazy trying to figure it out. The narrator is awesome though! Best so far, she can do all kinds of voices where the narrator on Venom and Vanilla sounded alike a lot while trying to do different voices. All in all this Author is incredible and what an imagination she has to write like this.

I would love to sit down with her sometime (phone or otherwise) and have her explain it all to me, that would be make my day! I spend 63 and spend a lot of time in bed so it gets pretty lonely and boring, these audible books keep me going!

I bet the younger people get it no problem, it's us older generation that didn't have this kind of reading in our day!!! Maybe?!?!?
