A wicked Scottish winter has just begun when pioneering female physician Sophia Jex-Blake calls on Detective Inspector Ian Hamilton to investigate the suspicious death of one of her patients - a railroad lineman who she believes succumbed to the horrific effects of arsenic poisoning. The most provocative aspect of the case doesn’t escape Hamilton: the married victim’s numerous sexual transgressions. Now, for the first time since the unexplained fire that killed his parents, Hamilton enters the Royal Infirmary to gain the insights of brilliant medical student Arthur Conan Doyle.

I loved this book but was a bit disappointed that it was not the same Narrator. Simon Mattacks did a fine job but I was use to the voices being different. Also his female voices were not very different from each other. This story was hard because of how graphic it was with the abuse the young girl went through. I cannot wait for book 3.

I own this book and saw it was an audio book. I was excited! Not for long. Why have a woman narrator when the main character is a man? She doesn't even try to change her voice between characters. She is just reading the word outloud. I know I have been spoiled from narrators getting into the story and bringing it alive in the past, this book was very flat.

I was not sure about this audible book. I have not had good luck with the cheap books. I am happy to report it was wonderful. This book caught my attention and do not let go until the very last moment. The narrator made each voice distinctive. This is a first book I have listened to by this narrator and it will not be my last. The author's book was terrific and adding a wonderful narration just made a perfect combination!

He's happy with his hobbies, his work - and especially with his lodger Rowley Green, who becomes a friend over their long fireside evenings together. If only neat, precise, irresistible Mr. Green were interested in more than friendship. Rowley just wants to be left alone - at least until he meets Clem, with his odd, charming ways and his glorious eyes. Two quiet men, lodging in the same house, coming to an understanding...it could be perfect.
