The most valuable lesson Emerson Moore ever learned was from her parents: Never get too attached to someone else. That's why this hard-partying college student plays by her own code of bedroom conduct, refusing to stay with the same guy for too long. She gets all the pleasure of having a good time without the messiness of a relationship. So what if frat-house hopping has earned her a certain reputation around campus? At least no one gets hurt this way - especially her.

I think when I read this book in 2014, I gave it 5 stars.

Five.

Idk if the narrator turned me off from the story THAT much or what, but listening to it almost 3 years later, I don't remember what I liked about it :-/

If this book interests you, read it.
Don't listen.

Some days are brighter than others, but Penelope Finnel has been taught she can be invisible behind the colored lenses of her heart-shaped sunglasses. Her mind is her worst enemy, and simply waking up in the morning is risky. For a kid like her, staying in bed is easier, especially when the day has come to start school in a new town with new kids who don’t understand that the clouds are not the only reason everything is so gloomy.

I had two things in life that mattered. My mother and my music. Mama was taken from me too soon, and now music is all I have left. It's the thing that's pushed me right out of backwoods Georgia into Los Angeles, where the line between fantasy and reality shimmers and blurs. I'm finally making my way, making my mark. I can't afford to fall for one of music's brightest stars. Not now. Music is all I have left, and I'm holding on tight with both hands.

Twenty-year-old Brooklyn "Bee" Turner is no stranger to grief. After witnessing her mother's brutal murder at age six, Brooklyn is guarded, damaged, and - by all accounts - a bitch. And that's just the way she likes it, if it means keeping everyone at arm's length. When she stumbles, quite literally, into Finn Chambers - campus ladies' man and the lead singer of a local band - she's unprepared for his persistence in befriending her and for the dangerous attraction she begins to feel for him.

I feel bad saying this but I wasn't a fan of the narrator. She made the hero sound like a villain. Like, I'm picturing him twirling the ends of his handlebar mustache...

She's about to make a deal with the college bad boy.... Hannah Wells has finally found someone who turns her on. But while she might be confident in every other area of her life, she's carting around a full set of baggage when it comes to sex and seduction. If she wants to get her crush's attention, she'll have to step out of her comfort zone and make him take notice, even if it means tutoring the annoying, childish, cocky captain of the hockey team in exchange for a pretend date.

I read this book a while back and was so excited to hear it would be an audiobook (it's how I prefer to reread old favorites). I was not impressed with this narrator. Every supporting female character sounded the same as one another, and the males were the same way. I've listened to some narrators where there was no doubt who was speaking among many characters - not the case here. And why didn't Garrett have a male narrator for his chapters and parts? It was really weird that she narrated his thoughts and stuff. I won't be buying the second book, which has different main characters but still the same narrator.
